Cookson Bend offers a relaxing atmosphere with clean campsites and friendly hosts, making it a pleasant experience for visitors. While some sites require maintenance, such as filling around concrete pads and removing dead trees, the restroom and shower facilities are well-maintained. Overall, campers appreciate the friendly staff and scenic views, though some have noted issues with overcrowding and site conditions.

Campsites are positioned with good lake views so that your door opens up to the picnic area. There are predominantly large cottonwood trees throughout the campground. While no hiking trails exists on the grounds, we enjoyed walking the paved roads throughout the park. Nice marina and restaurant (open weekends only) are within walking distance. Lake is one of prettiest in Oklahoma. We’ve already planned a return visit.

This is a beautiful campground with very friendly attendants. Lots of shade, clean bathrooms and showers and the playground is nice for the kiddos. My only complaint is some of the campsites are WAY too close.

We set up planning on staying two weeks. Didn't know it was reservation only. There were no signs indicating
that the sites were reservation only. We had to leave after 3 days. A little sign at the entrance wouldn't be too expensive.

I was kind sad because I didn’t have a grill on my site, so cooking options were VERY limited. On top of this issue we had the issue of every time we went to the bathroom shower, 1 light did not come on, and 2 the toilet paper continually ran out. Several campers came by and were upset because there was no possible way to get to campsite #3. It was very crowded and basically tripping over each other. Campsites need to be cleaned and maintained, yes camping is meant to be back to earth, but it still needs to be maintained better.

We had a great location, just feet from the water’s edge. Of course until it floods. (No fault of the campground.) We left a day early when the water began rising. A few days letter we got an email from recreation.gov telling us that they refunded the night that we missed due to the campground closing due to flooding.
The entire campground is really beautiful, some sites close to the water and some up in the trees. We enjoyed walking, kayaking, and riding bikes. The campground is just a few minutes walk (just outside the gate) from the Cookson Marina which was very handy. The boat ramp and dock inside the campground was underwater. Our only complaint is it is very rocky. Not a lot of grass for walking dogs or kids playing, although they did have a nice playground.

I’m not a very tech smart person & I was having a difficult time trying to make a reservation. I finally drove over to the camp area & talked to the lady in the check -in house. She called her husband and he took my phone & filled out the whole thing. What a blessing for me!! He said a lot of people complain about the web site.
