Our camp host was great.......bathrooms were exceptionally clean, nice guy to talk to. You could tell he cared about having his camp clean and quiet. We will definitely be coming back for our annual trip!

We had read Karren K's review and thought, oh that must be a one off, that won't happen to us. We arrived around 3pm Sunday, our first reserved night. We arrived to a trailer in our site and a receipt of payment for that night. The people were out enjoying the lake as they should so we weren't able to speak with them. We saw other Reserved signs posted at other camp sites so we thought that the host must have made a mistake and not posted ours. We went to find the host and they were nowhere to be found. In fact there were several other parties looking for them too. We drove around the campground a few times hopeful that the host or the people in our site would return. We looked closer at the Reserved postings at the sites that had them up and they were all for the weekend (F - Su) not Su and on. At this point we realized that what Karren K posted about was in fact true. The host is an absentee host. By not posting the next reservations at sites, people looking for first come first served sites began moving in and paying at the pay box. They are not wrong for assuming the sites are available. The host isn't doing their job and it's causing all sorts of confusion. We left a note at the host site and site 32 which we had reserved. About 6pm the people who had paid for our site came back and were very understanding about the situation. Around 6:30 the host finally showed up and told them to move to site 15 which had become occupied during the day because the host wasn't around to regulate what was going on. Since we were tent camping and they had a trailer we shared the site for the one night. But the site was double paid for. Perhaps the host pockets the extra cash? I hope not. We were supposed to move sites (reserved) later in the week and meet up with friends but that site had become occupied by a walk up group and paid for through our reserved dates. Because of this we canceled and left. Waldo Lake is beautiful. The host is TERRIBLE!!!

We have been camping at Waldo lake since the early 80s. We always enjoy our time at the lake however, as the lake has become more popular it seems that the care of the restrooms is not always up to par. Last year was an anomaly. The host always made sure the bathrooms had toilet paper and they were always clean. We also saw her everyday checking the sites. She was an excellent campground host. Not true this year. There was no toilet paper in the restroom closest to the lake . Also no toilet paper in the upper restroom. The restrooms were also dirty. We went by the host campsite and there was no one there. We never saw the camp ground host for two days. For two days there is no toilet paper in the bathrooms and they were not clean. When we left on Friday the bathroom still had not been cleaned and the toilet paper was dwindling. When you pay $24-$44 for a campsite you expect the bathrooms to contain toilet paper and be clean. Especially during this time of COVID-19 they should be cleaned every day. Also the garbage bins were absolutely overflowing and we understand that is Wilderness garbage schedule but maybe that needs to be changed especially after a weekend. We still love Waldo but more attention needs to be payed to the care and cleanliness of the facility.

Beautiful lake, but there were too many people and cars.

Our reserved lakeside site was occupied when we arrived by someone who said they also had a reservation for the same site. The campground host was nowhere to be found until evening. Lucky for us there was a first come first served lakeside site available. The host this year is TERRIBLE. We have been coming to this campground for 14 years. Each year since reservations became available at this campground the quality of our experience has gone down. Large groups and enormous RVs surrounded us this year. Also, very glad we brought our own water - I saw one woman brushing her teeth and putting her mouth up to the water spigot to rinse and several teenage girls washing their legs and feet at the spigot. Bad behavior, particularly in the midst of a pandemic. If you want party central, go to North Waldo or Shadow Bay.

We loved our stay here! Our site was so pretty and large - we had lots of room to spread out. We also liked that the campground offered a bottle drop. We were happy to donate our empty cans and bottles to a good cause. Also the boat launch is very well maintained. Our only complaint is the mosquitoes but they are to be expected in the wilderness.
We'll be back for sure!

Our campsite was fine. The table and fire ring were in good shape. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake and hiking nearby. There is a lot to do close by.
We were very disappointed, however, at the lack of attention given to the outhouse. The outhouse was clean and stocked with toilet paper when we arrived, but received no attention or service during the remainder of our visit. The morning we left, there was no toilet paper in the outhouse and the floor was littered with toilet paper and there was what appeared to be urine on the floor. With a camp host on site, we expected better.

My family and I have been camping at Waldo for many years and love the memories we have created there. We feeling very lucky have such a gem so close to home. I would give my experience at Islaet a “5” if it weren’t for our experience with host last summer.
