We enjoy some time at Waldo Lake every summer. It is a very beautiful place with hiking, sailing, and kayaking.

The lake is amazing, so plan on bringing a human powered way to check it out. There are also many trails in the area so bring your hiking boots!

We have camped at Islet almost every year for over a decade. Since the campground has been taking reservations it has changed. Islet used to be a relatively quiet campground filled with uncommon people. Now there are large RV's, and larger groups of people. I have to book reservations as soon as they open in February to hit that sweet spot in August when the mosquitoes don't eat you alive. Three years ago a family reunion inflated a plastic island that floated in the lagoon all week. Waldo Lake is a pristine wilderness that deserves more respect.
My recommendations: Limit the group size to 8, or even stop taking reservations at Islet. There are multiple campgrounds (including North Waldo and Shadow Bay) on hundreds of lakes in the Cascades that can accommodate large groups. If people choose to come to Waldo Lake, please educate them regarding the unique qualities of this environment.

My family and I love the Oregon woods. I'm so grateful that we have access to such beautiful places near our home. For the last 15 years (before kids and now with our children) we have spent one full week at Waldo Lake at Islet Campground. It is an amazing experience that my family will treasure for years to come. The many different companies that have managed the campground over the years have been great. Campground is clean safe and fun for my family.

Clean, quite, but very busy campground. Great mountain biking and lovely lake. Please keep soaps, etc. away from the lake edge. The nitrates from our products allow moss to grow in this lake and the change over the last few years is noticeable!

Campground was well maintained and clean.
The mosquitoes were relentless. Had to bolt on our last morning to escape the mosquitoes without getting a last kayak paddle on a pristine calm lake.

Beside the mosquitoes, it was really good. I never got so many mosquito bites ever!
but the lake was beautiful and staff were friendly.
