Eel Creek Campground is a highly praised site known for its beautiful location near the Oregon Dunes and Sieslaw Forest, offering clean, private campsites and friendly hosts. Campers appreciate the access to hiking trails and the peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Individual sites are nice and most have some element of privacy. Site 2 did not have a grate over fire pit which made using fire for cooking difficult. Bathroom was not well taken care of, unclean, unswept floor and waste baskets overflowing.

Very nice site, plenty of privacy. Good access to the dunes. Close to Coos Bay and Eel lake for swimming. The camp host could spend more time at each site when campers leave, lots of small plastics and papers around the picnic tables.

Quiet, well-separated campsites. Clean, well-equipped bathrooms. Great place to walk after dinner. Short trip to launch our boat.

The campground hosts made our time there extra special. The campground was well cared for by them and they handled the challenges that can come from campers extremely well. We do want to comment that this “reservation only system” chosen by that district ties everyone’s hands. Many sites sit empty, but even when one calls in and points out that the site has been empty for 2 days - staff on the phone will not release the sites. Please make more sites first come first serve and please enforce the rule that campers are supposed to occupy the site. Not only this site - but sites all over with this kind of system are often fully reserved and largely empty!

Great sites! This was our first time staying here and we absolutely loved it. The whole campground is tent only so no big RVs. No showers but clean flushable toilets. There is drinkable water too. The spaces themselves are pretty secluded and not right on top of each other like some campgrounds. Lots of trees and bushes i between sites. Be prepared for SAND!! You will be right next to dunes so there is a lot of sand. We have a camp shower so we where able to rinse off prior to getting in the tent, if you don’t, like I said above there are spickets where you can rinse off too. We where there sat-wed, the weekend can get pretty loud but during the week it was so quiet. LAKES! We are kayakers and let me tell you, the lakes are amazing. Eel lake (5 mins away) is beyond gorgeous once you get away from the main area. There are 2-3 other lakes within 30 miles. I will say if you want close beach access this campground may not be the one. We had to go to Winchester Bay about 30 min North to get to the beach (Umqua lighthouse/North Beach). HIKES!!! Lots of hikes, there is a 2 that start at the campground, one is a little 1.2 miler and the other is 6.4 miles. There are many other hikes around the area as well. TOWNS! Coos Bay is about 35 miles South of the campground and has everything that you might need. They have a Walmart, Dicks…. And MUCH more. I should mention there are no restaurants near the campground itself so bring food and be prepared to cook. There is a minimart about 2 mins away along with a gas station (SPENDY GAS) AND….. a Dollar General which has just about all you need. All in all it’s a FIVE STAR campground for us and most definitely will be going back!!

Our stay at this campground was really awesome. It is very quiet, very private sites. The only issue was that bathrooms were not cleaned during our 4 day stay.

This campground is located in close proximity to multiple lakes and wetlands. Due to this, there can be an abundance of mosquitoes between the months of April and August. Please be prepared for this. |
