#8 is the best spot if you want to get in the lake. It would be a shame to take it otherwise. Best for those with kayaks, we loved the spot!

The campground map is very confusing. I was under the impression I had gotten a campsite far from the road. Turns out we were next to the road. It was disappointing to be camping and listening to traffic all night. The campground were also MUCH closer together than the map has you believe.
The camp host was amazingly friendly. The scenery was fantastic.

We had a fairly level site for our small rv with a view through branches to the lake. There was a spot near the boat ramp to leave our kayak trailer making it easy to put the boat or paddle board in each day. The paddling was beautiful in the mornings before the wind came up. There are several hikes nearby that go through the dunes to the ocean, but they were more difficult than we wanted to attempt.

Site 13 was great. It's backed up against a large tree for cover and only borders one other site (the sites in this row are pretty close quarters so it's nice to be at the edge). No cell service on any carrier, 10 min drive north or south will get you coverage. Lake is awesome, super peaceful and a great spot. Road noise is there, but not very loud, so be aware of that. Close proximity to ATVing and other coastal stuff. Bathroom is acceptable. Great CG overall.

We have been coming to this campground for about 35 years and always look forward to our time there. We were disappointed when most of the nice view sites were changed from RESERVED to FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. If you drive 4 or 5 hrs. expecting to get a nice site and they are all taken it diminishes the experience. Needs to go back to reservations for the view sites especially. On a positive note the Camp Hosts ROD & CINDY are the greatest. These folks keep everything very clean and orderly. They treat you like family. They are the best hosts since we started coming here.

Pros:
The campsite sits directly on the edge of the lake, so it is a little slice of heaven. It is gorgeous! ! ! And the kids loved swimming in the lake. The camp hosts were incredibly kind and kept checking in to see how our stay was going. They were wonderful. They also did a fantastic job of keeping the bathroom clean and with TP. We had a blast kayaking/swimming in the lake. Dogs aloud.
Cons:
The vault (pit) toilet was super stinky and the smell from the air seemed to stick to our clothes. We got home last night and my car smells like a porta potty from our sleeping bags and clothes. Everything stinks to high heaven.
There is only one porta potty that I saw, so you have to wait in line at times for the bathroom. (So you really have to plan potty breaks or bring your own bathroom.)
Sites 2,3, & 4 are on a semi-private dirt road along the water's edge. They are stunning sites, but they are also incredibly small. So the camper's car from the next site over was so close to the edge of our site that I had to hold onto my car door when opening it so it wouldn't bump the next door neighbor's car. Super small sites. Also, I could hear my neighbor's dog barking all night. They really should have turned sites 2, 3 & 4 into two sites instead of 3. FYI...Site #8 is very secluded at the end of the road without a lake view, but it is a much larger site and more private.
No trailers: The road is a tiny dirt road with no room for trailers to turn around, so I couldn't bring our tiny 4x6 trailer.
The campground dock is open to public use. So that means that at 530am a group of 10 loud trucks/trailers started loading their giant boats into the water. I am guessing the boat launch is about 200 feet from our campground so you could hear EVERY word as they were laughing and yelling at each other during launch. They were yelling and revving engines at the crack of dawn for their camping trip. So everyone in the campground was woken up by the loud engines.

Camp sites are pretty stacked with no privacy. View of the lake is great though.

This campground is located in close proximity to multiple lakes and wetlands. Due to this, there can be an abundance of mosquitoes between the months of April and August. Please be prepared for this. |
