I'm almost hesitant to write a good review, given how quickly stampeded the good places get nowadays. Hopefully, not too many people will see this :) :)
This lakeside campground is a little gem. It does not have water, but otherwise, it's a great place to just get away, relax, fish, swim in the summer, boat, all the things you go camping for. During the summer, the campground a quarter mile up the road has water, otherwise remember to bring enough for your trip. There are no flush toilets but the vault toilets are large, well maintained and not at all unpleasant.
There are some really private spots, some less so that make for good congregating, and some that overlook the water. The area as a whole is well forested so all sites have good shade during at least some part of the day. The lake is simply beautiful - large and tranquil, with many intriguing branches. There is some traffic noise from highway 101 that may take a little getting used to, especially at night.
The hosts for several years now, Rod and Cindy, are two of the best Forest Service hosts I've ever encountered. They are friendly without being intrusive, make sure the area is kept up, and have been readily available to answer questions and help with any issues that come up.
Maybe best of all in this area, it doesn't seem to attract the ATV crowd. That in itself is a huge plus.
All this said, it's awful. Really, you'll hate it. Go somewhere else! (and let the rest of us enjoy it in uncrowded peace :) ).

We actually stayed at the Tahkenwitch Campground across the street in error but happily met Campground host Gypsy who is very informative and helpful. The campground is small and beautifully situated in the forest but roadway is audible from one side of the loop

The hosts are always super nice. This is our families favorite place to camp. It’s so peaceful! Just be aware this is a dry camp. No water source. So you have to haul it in

difficult because of no electricity or water view of the lake hampered by brush that could be removed

Camp host was friendly and very nice to talk with. Beautiful lake, pretty quiet for a busy holiday weekend. Great trip!

Great camping on the lake watching the fog, wind moving across the water, the little girl so excited about catching fish on the dock with her proud father standing by. There is no internet service so if you're coming in without an already made reservation you need to go up the road to higher ground to make your online reservation after checking out the sites. The computer reservation system is a pain that way, rather than just checking in with a campground host.

Our first time camping there. Great spot to enjoy the lake. Camp host was friendly and kept the bathrooms clean. Overall great experience.

This campground is located in close proximity to multiple lakes and wetlands. Due to this, there can be an abundance of mosquitoes between the months of April and August. Please be prepared for this. |
