About Dovre Recreation Site

Want to camp? Camping season is generally May-September, with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. During months with reduced sunlight, potable water may be turned off. Be prepared to bring your own wash and drinking water. Reserve a site at one of our four campgrounds on recreation.gov or pay when you arrive for non-reserved campsites using the Recreation.gov Mobile App. You must download before you reach the site since there is no cell reception in the drainage.  A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age. Dover is the Bureau of Land Management’s western most campground in the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River (https://www.rivers.gov/rivers/nestucca.php). The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and beauty.

Sweet little campground along a lovely patch of river. No fishing allowed here but a short drive to spots where fishing is allowed. The camp sites are variable, some more private than others. Would be fine if a group of friends/families all booked together, but we were much too close to our neighbors for comfort (3 and 4). I'm not sure how 5 even counts as a site. 6 looked nice. 1 ok, but too near the road for my taste.

We stayed in quirky site 5 with our 21' trailer. The site is small, with a tent pad of pea gravel, a picnic, fire ring, and no space for anything else. We put our trailer in the far left parking space of the small tenter parking lot of site 4. It worked out, but was close quarters when the neighboring tenters from site 4 came to get something from their car in the next parking space. The space was far from level. That being said, we had a lovely time in this unique campground. The camp host was fantastic and welcoming, and we enjoyed the lush vegetation and peaceful river. Potable water at the pump house. Carry your garbage out when you leave.

We arrived having reservations for site 6 and expecting to put our 21' trailer in it, but it is not possible. Between the steep decline of the driveway and the sharp bend at the bottom around a tree, we decided against it and took a different site. The site description led us to believe we could put a trailer in site 6, but i think it would be difficult even for smaller trailers. Campers with trailers should Just be aware . For tents, it is a great site. Also, know that people walk along site 6 to use the river access points, which could be a lot of foot traffic on a warm day.
