About Dovre Recreation Site

Want to camp? Camping season is generally May-September, with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. During months with reduced sunlight, potable water may be turned off. Be prepared to bring your own wash and drinking water. Reserve a site at one of our four campgrounds on recreation.gov or pay when you arrive for non-reserved campsites using the Recreation.gov Mobile App. You must download before you reach the site since there is no cell reception in the drainage.  A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age. Dover is the Bureau of Land Management’s western most campground in the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River (https://www.rivers.gov/rivers/nestucca.php). The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and beauty.

Sites are so close together and not private at all. River access is terrible as well. We ended up leaving after an hour because our neighbors were so close it was uncomfortable.

The campground host, Teresa, was very helpful and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful experience just meeting her. The small campground is lovely, although it has a “dirt floor” and I wish I had brought more than one little rug for the dog and tent entrance. The river is right there and you can hear it all night. (Cool nights) You might want shoes to wade in to travel up and down the river. Be sure to check out the amazing waterfall across the road. There were NO fireworks the night of the 4th and every camp site had one or two grateful dogs. No Verizon cell service for a very long way in either direction. Vault toilets. Potable water. I plan to return asap.

Campground was nearly empty the weekend we went. Great location right on the river, sites are fairly open so be prepared to see and hear your neighbors. Restroom was clean and well maintained even though there was no camp host. Only complaint was no trash disposal so pack it in - pack it out.
