A magical experience. We were in site 32 facing east on the night of a full moon. The shimmering moonglow on the lake was mesmerizing. Delightful breeze coming off the lake. We swam in cool water 30 feet from our Class B RV. The showers/bathrooms were very clean. Lots of distance betwwen campsites so a true sense of solitude. Host Walt made us feel very welcome and oriented us nicely to the area. This experience really "turned us on" to campgrounds of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Campsites are well spaced to give plenty of privacy and great lake views and access. Sites are level and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I think this is now my favorite campground! The ONLY downside is that I was unable to get a signal with Verizon. I was able to get some calls through if I stood in one exact spot but many text messages failed to send or receive. Mostly it is nice not to be tied to the phone but I don’t want to be totally unreachable in case of emergency. I was also very disappointed to learn it is closed through the winter. I this area, often that is the best weather for camping - at least through December.

I have been camping at Hawe Creek for several years now. It is a nice clean, quite, and well maintained campground. Walter is the best, always there to help with any needs you may have. I stay for 7 to 10 days each month (May through Sept). The only negative about Hawe Creek is they do not offer year round camping. I know I am not alone when I say, Please consider opening year round.
