Tree limbs not maintained. Booked site for a motorhome and it was unusable level wise. Tree stumps hiding in the tall grass along campground road. Burning wise to swing into a site resulted in a stump catching my stairs and almost tearing it apart. Had to leave a voicemail for someone to refund the two weeks I booked but that person is not back for a week per voicemail message. Had and had to scramble to find another site. This campground is not motorhome friendly at all but is listed as such.

Nice, quiet, spacious sites and close to the launch for the lake. Camp hosts friendly and informative. There is a lot to do in the area. First time camping here-hope to make it back !

Beautiful campground. Camp hosts are AWESOME. Very quiet and campsites are mostly well spaced. Best campsites for views are 17, 22 and 37. We were on 21. Nice view but a little downhill coming out of the camper. Lake is beautiful. Hikes are not great around this location, but easy access to other trails around. Campground is close to Hill City. Must have lunch at Alpine Inn. Food was great. Dog friendly on the porch. A couple of good breweries and wineries in the area, also dog friendly outside. Custer is close by, and we loved it. Should go to the saloon in Rochford, just for the experience. We went to Spearfish our last day and want to camp in that area next visit.

We stayed here for two nights along our drive to Colorado. Although our reason to select this location was to hike, the campground was clean, campers were friendly, and the lake within walking distance affords fishing and kayaking. We arrived at sunset because we spent the day continuing our Badlands visit and driving to the campground was a couple hours. Soon after setting up the tent, a massive thunderstorm lasting about 90 minutes entertained us. We woke early to hike Black Elk Peak starting in Custer State Park. I highly recommend the campground and the hike!! Following the hike we visited Mount Rushmore. On the ride back to the camp ground, we had a well deserved dinner in Hill City at the Mange Moose. I recommend the beef tacos with cottage cheese and a side salad. Given that tourists outnumbered the restaurant staff, our order came pretty quickly compared to others as we patiently awaited. Our wait was well worth it.

Gorgeous public campground, great view of the lake, and a lovely walk to it to boot.
Attendants were nice, campsites were a good distance from eachother, and water sites were plentiful.
