What Guests Are Saying
Chilhowee Campground is praised for its beautiful natural setting, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a favorite for repeat visitors. The campground features clean bathrooms, spacious sites, and a lovely lake for swimming, along with access to hiking trails, including the popular Benton Falls. While the access road is narrow and winding, and some areas may appear dated, the overall experience is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful camping getaway.

While the area is picturesque and Benton Falls is stunning, the campground itself felt abandoned. Bathroom facilities look run down (moss and debris all over). Camping loops are wild with weeds and long grass. Group campsites are mixed in with individual sites in the same loop...resulting in a lot of noise from kids in the group sites. The gazebo is defaced with a lot of graffiti. There is trash (bottles, cans, wrappers) in some areas along the roads. It is disheartening to see. No campground hosts. Chilhowee unfortunately seems to suffer from understaffing at this time. Much TLC needed.

Been coming here for a few years, kinda sad that they cannot find host volunteers by the time we stayed. All sites except in A and B were closed. Water and Waste site was closed (had to use Parksville campground dump station on way home). Nothing really cleaned up at the site (bathrooms minimally looked after, grass overgrown, beach area overgrown, etc.). I hope they find site hosts soon or get an increase in the budget. This is a wonderful place and I hate to see it go downhill like this.

Great experience! Went on a great hike to some of the lookouts as well as the waterfall. Absolutely gorgeous in the fall. The campground was very clean. We will definitely be going back. The lookout at sunset is stunning.

we loved our stay at the campground, although it was a bit confusing at first. you do not check in, you just find your spot and pull in. the bathrooms are not heated and the water in the shower is a bit misleading. It was very cold but you have to keep pushing the "button" to obtain the hot water. colors were gorgeous, very quite camp ground, the hike to Benton Falls states easy and for the most part it is, unless you want to go into the "canyon", it is slick and the handrails are questionable. the park rangers in the area are very nice and the park staff was helpful, we had a sinkhole open up and it was fixed the very next day.

The sites were very spacious and nice! The bathrooms were adequate, except for the showers! Water did not get hot and you have to keep pressing the water every few seconds.
