What Guests Are Saying
Chilhowee Campground is praised for its beautiful natural setting, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a favorite for repeat visitors. The campground features clean bathrooms, spacious sites, and a lovely lake for swimming, along with access to hiking trails, including the popular Benton Falls. While the access road is narrow and winding, and some areas may appear dated, the overall experience is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful camping getaway.

What a nice campground! Sites were well maintained and the bathroom was clean. Excellent trails and the trip to Benton Falls was excellent. I will most certainly be back in the spring. My only wish is that this campground would remain open during the winter.

Absolutely beautiful hidden gem of a campground.
You have to drive about 20 min up the mountain from the rangers station to reach the actual campground (which is a beautiful scenic drive with pull offs to take in the views!) once you reach the campground you will find that attendants/hosts drive around on golfcarts and check in with you pretty often. We were actually able to βcheck inβ to our campsite this way with the attendant and get everything we needed! Very convenient! The bathhouses weβre well maintained, showers are push button and the water stays on for less than 10 seconds each time but it is hot with excellent pressure!
There are also several small interconnected hikes that can be done right from the campground. We got a hiking map from the host when we checked in! Walking around the campground itβs self is also beautiful- many different types of trees and plants to see, we also saw a few deer and lots of squirrels! Sites are well spaced out so you do have privacy and plenty of room to enjoy your site!
We unfortunately had to cut our trip short but will be back to explore this area more! Great place to stay!

Great hiking trails. The hike to the falls is beautiful. The bathrooms was ok just needed some warmth. Water was barely warm. Nice campground.

Great campground! Make sure you pack accordingly, no camp store and its a lengthy trek up the mountain to get there. Would definitely camp here again.

Very nice campsites, almost level and nice firepit with cooking grill and hangers. The problem we found is no firewood, can't bring it in and they don't sell it?

A beautiful place to camp easy access. Some of the best views at the overlooks. Hiking trails and a small lake with a beach. Dogs are allowed on the trials not the beaches. Was very peaceful. Definitely will be back. Cell or WiFi is very limited if any.

This campground is beautiful, peaceful, and satisfying for visitors of all ages and abilities. Having suffered torn ligaments, I could not pursue the various hiking trails around my site, but I could still make it down the easy path to the nearby small lake and enjoy the sunshine there on one of the many stone benches. Everything was clean and well kept, and other campers were friendly without being intrusive. I look forward to visiting again whenever I can in the future.

Chillowee is one of my favorite campgrounds. Itβs location nestled in Cherokee National Forest allows for very peaceful stays in a beautiful landscape. This is why we come to Chillowee the same week every year for the last decade.
