We camped in spot #10 by the creek. the river/creek is controlled by a dam so at times it is high and fast flowing and in the evening it lowered and stopped flowing completely. My kids were able to get in and float when it was stopped, but it would be too fast to swim if flowing. There is definite road noise even by the creek. Showers/bathrooms were much better than I anticipated after reading so many bad reviews. Everything seemed pretty clean.

We were looking for a father and son Father’s Day weekend, and found an excellent tent site at Thunder Rock Campground. We arrived in the dark with rain, but that is camping!! In the morning we had a great view of the Ocoee River, and it was fun to watch rafters come thru throughout the day. The campsite is clean, inviting, has hot showers and great restrooms, and both were very convenient. We highly recommend the campgrounds when tent camping!

We absolutely love staying at this Campground. The host is absolutely wonderful. Most of the sites are really great. However this was the first time we stayed in site 16. Although it has a really great view of the river is this site tends to flood very easily. All it took was one good thunderstorm and the entire site was filled with two to four inches of water. Stepping out of our camper we had to step into several inches of water. But like I said, the host was wonderful and there was a few vacant sites. She was more than happy to let us move to one of them. As far as I saw, this was the only site that flooded.

The setting by the Ocoee river is beautiful and relaxing, but there are a few concerns that need to be addressed. We stayed at a group site, which oddly had only one picnic table—hardly sufficient for a group booking.
Even more concerning was the lack of hand soap in the bathhouses. Basic hygiene shouldn't be optional, especially in shared public facilities. If there are safety concerns with soap containers, installing dispenser systems would be a simple and effective fix.
It’s important to remember that taxpayer money helps fund national parks and campgrounds like Thunder Rock. As such, it's reasonable to expect basic amenities like adequate seating and proper sanitation.
This campground has a lot of potential, but small improvements like these would make a big difference for visitors.

We stayed in campsite number 27. The restrooms were clean. The camp host was very pleasant and friendly. A great campground for anyone riding the Smoky Mountain 500.

It was a great experience. Beautiful area, we were at site #12 which was right on the water. The only downside was you can hear the traffic from the highway however, our crackling fire and the sounds of the babbling creek drowned it out a bit. The site host was very friendly and helpful as well. Don’t forget to bring your own firewood, but you can find sticks around camp for help starting your fire but no firewood available on site to buy. Overall great pick, we will definitely be back!!

Traffic noise during the night was substantial. Otherwise, all was nice.
