This site #052 is personally the best site in chisos basin. It has wonderful views of the mountains without other tents obstructing it. Very close to the bathroom. Very nice shade and table area. The only bad thing is the tent pad area is at a slight slant but if you don’t mind that it’s perfect!
There are also wasps so be prepared for that.

The campground itself was fine. We stayed one night during down season on mid-August. There was running water, a dish sink, and flushing toilets at the site. We laid a tent in site 40, which was isolated and quiet, but was more rocky than many of the other sites. We were there during a full moon, so having the artificial shade detracted from the beautifully-illuminated skies (and starry night before the moonrise). The mosquitoes were a problem at the site. They seemed programmed to swarm anywhere near even sealed food. Overall, I would camp here again, but during the Fall, Spring, or Winter.

The park rangers were incredible, helping us feel welcome and secure. At the Chisos Basin campground we were greeted upon arrival, and departure.

Took a seven year old, five year old and one year old with my wife and we had a great time. It was hot but not unbearable. The fossil exhibit was great for the kids. In the heat of the day, drive the park as there are over 130 miles of paved roads to explore with several pull offs along the way. We went to Balmorhea state park during this trip which was three hours away and worth every minute. Balmorhea is a natural spring turned into a pool so nice to cool off after a few hot days at Big Bend. Scarce shower facilities on site so be prepared to pay for one at the RGV store, baby wipe or sponge bath. Glad we got to go before construction began on the new lodge. Chisos basin was by far the coolest temps and best views of all the campgrounds in the park!

Great and helpful volunteers, beautiful nature, and pleasant temperatures. Unfortunately, no showers and the restaurant is closed.

Beautiful camp ground up in higher elevations. Love the camp hosts communication from Kim and with other campers. She helped us retrieve one of our pets that got lose going down one of the trails.

Kind nature, very informative, cared for our trail outings, and gave great advice. Troop 146 thanks you all.

Easily one of the most scenic campsites in all of USA. The drive to the campground is stunning and the wildlife viewing was a huge bonus. Such a great park and campground.
