We loved camping in Chisos Basin! The drive into the basin was a bit hairy even in a 21 ft Class B but well worth it! The views were beautiful as well as the sunrise and sunset. It was also a bit cooler than the lower region of the park. The park ranger Kim gave us great advice to hike the Windows Trail in the early part of the morning and to bring lots of water. Great hike! We even saw Starlinks flash across the dark sky! The park rangers there are very caring and really care about your safety!

Great time at BBNP as always. Chisos Basin Campground was a bit crowded, but everyone was respectful of each other's space. Site was clean and well maintained. Restrooms were clean and plenty of TP.
So many things to do. this trip we did the Window Trail, Grapevine Hills and the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. All highly recommended.
In camp we set up or photo gear for shooting the stars. Turned out great!
Rangers were always around if you needed help or had questions. They kept an eye on hikers in the afternoon heat, safety first.

Site 36 is probably the worst site in the best campground, so still worth reserving. Bathhouse door slams can be noisy at night and site is sloping and your RV door will face the road as there's nowhere to turnaround. But beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

There are no bad campsites at Chisos Basin. Great views from each and every site, plenty of very clean rest rooms, friendly and helpful camp hosts. You can hike into the breathtaking surrounding Chisos peaks on the Windows trail, with the trailhead right in the campground, or on the Lost Mines trail, with the trailhead a few miles away. Spend at least four or five nights to more thoroughly see and experience this vast and beautiful park!

I thoroughly enjoyed the area. However, there were a couple of issues:
- There was a large wasp nest in spot 27.
- In spot 29, adjacent to mine, there was a family with a small baby. While I didn't mind the baby waking up at 3 am and crying for an hour or two without the parents doing anything, what bothered me and others who complained to me was that the family played a white noise machine with ocean sounds very loudly from dawn till dusk without any pause. This prevented me from fully enjoying the natural sounds of the environment, such as the lovely animals at night.

Whenever I visit Big Bend, it is a treat to stay at the campground in mountain basin! It's my home away from home when I visit the park.
