Park Rangers are very helpful, helped us plan our trip to Santa Elena Canyon, Rio Grande Village, and to Boquillas Port of Entry. Ranger at Boquillas Port of Entry helped me get my Fanny pack back, since I left it at the PJ gas station restroom, I picked it up at PJ headquarters the next day, and everything was in my Fanny pack, we were very impressed with the honesty in the Park.

What can I say? It’s Chisos Basin!
Anyone who has stayed before, will agree, it is one of the best places to camp in Big Bend.

Site 30 is an excellent spot. Somewhat secluded and convenient to both restrooms and hiking trails

Definitely worth staying in Chisos Basin. The night sky views were fantastic, though you may need to give the clouds time to clear. If you plan to make the hike to Emory Peak, don't expect it to be like your average trail experience. (Don't forget to BYO toilet paper for the latrine) It was worth it, but we felt it the entire way back. Seeing a black bear did help make the return hike more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful and we couldn't have asked for a better start to our anniversary trip.

Amazing scenery, incredible star gazing. And we saw 3 different bears while out in the basin away from the campground. A lot of fun.

Absolutely beautiful campground, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Big Bend. Campsite host was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend the Chisos Basin Loop and the Lost Mine Trail in the evening. Just make sure to plan so you don't end up on the mountain in the dark. It does get VERY windy up in the mountains, we ended up sleeping without a rain fly to prevent the tent from collapsing under the wind.

The Chisos Mountain Basic is an amazing location — my absolute favorite area in the Big Bend Country. It has it all; temperate climate, views, stunning hikes for all levels. The campground is great, it has a lodge with cabins and restaurant, a visitor center AND grocery store. There’s fresh water and very nice restrooms in the campground. They even have bears in the Chisos! The ONLY thing missing is ….. SHOWERS!
The ONLY showers available in the entire park are at Rio Grande Village WHICH is on the desert floor where summer temperatures go reach 110. Meanwhile it may be 85 in the Basin, but hiking does work up a lather, and it’s a 60 mile round trip just to take a shower. So PLEASE: maybe pencil in some showers during your next budget cycle? Otherwise the Basin is amazing, and we love it love it love it!
