Absolutely beautiful campground, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Big Bend. Campsite host was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend the Chisos Basin Loop and the Lost Mine Trail in the evening. Just make sure to plan so you don't end up on the mountain in the dark. It does get VERY windy up in the mountains, we ended up sleeping without a rain fly to prevent the tent from collapsing under the wind.

The Chisos Mountain Basic is an amazing location — my absolute favorite area in the Big Bend Country. It has it all; temperate climate, views, stunning hikes for all levels. The campground is great, it has a lodge with cabins and restaurant, a visitor center AND grocery store. There’s fresh water and very nice restrooms in the campground. They even have bears in the Chisos! The ONLY thing missing is ….. SHOWERS!
The ONLY showers available in the entire park are at Rio Grande Village WHICH is on the desert floor where summer temperatures go reach 110. Meanwhile it may be 85 in the Basin, but hiking does work up a lather, and it’s a 60 mile round trip just to take a shower. So PLEASE: maybe pencil in some showers during your next budget cycle? Otherwise the Basin is amazing, and we love it love it love it!

One of the highlights of our trip. We loved the campsite #60, the staff their were amazing, and we saw bears in the am and pm! It was wonderful!!!

Camp hosts were awesome — friendly, informative, and helpful.
Site 52 had excellent views and a covered picnic table — outstanding.
Only downside is the campsites are too close to each other.

It was the last days of May and turned out to be too hot to be in camp during the day. Once you had shade it was fine except for the flies which were persistent and plentiful. Friday night the 31st there was a large group of kids on the opposite side of the campground from the hosts that were obnoxiously loud until the early hours of the morning so I had to screw my earplugs in real tight. All that having been said, the Chisos Mt. Campground is beautifully situated and has always been a very special place and the campground hosts were very friendly and I'm sure would have intervened with the loud noise but I was too tired and it was too late to get out of my sleeping bag.

Not typically one to leave a review, but what an amazing campground. Kim, Jeff, and George were some of the best camp hosts I have ever stayed with. They are extremely knowledgeable about the entire park and area, and eager to give advice and tips. I’ll be back next year to see them again!

We arrived late and didn’t get to enjoy the trails as we only stayed for one day, but Camp Host Kim made sure we got a campsite with a covered picnic table as we booked a campsite without one. She went out of her way to ensure we would have some shade from the heat as the temperatures were going to be over 100. Sounded kind of silly at first, but it really made all the difference! All the park staff were very friendly and helpful. The campsite had beautiful views, was very clean, not run down. The camp hosts checked on us a couple of times during our stay to make sure we were ok.
Park staff stressed not to leave your food or trash out/unattended due to bears. The whole park was beautiful, but what stood out was how wonderful the park staff was. Our stay was short, but very memorable. Can’t wait to come back again!

Both the park and the campground were nicer than we expected, despite the plus-100 degree heat everyday. My wife and I were particularly impressed with the very friendly and helpful campground host, George Hazelhurst. While we camp fairly frequently in hosted-campgrounds, we seldom have interacted with the campground host other than to check-in in to our camping spot. George came by our campsite on is own and entered into a very informative and fun discussion about the park, his job, and his experiences at the park. He was just tremendous! For an unpaid volunteer, he was more than anyone could have expected or have hoped for!
