What Guests Are Saying

Double Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful and clean park set in a tranquil wooded environment, ideal for hiking and biking. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, well-maintained sites, and clean restrooms. While some facilities need updates and there's limited fishing due to lily pads, the overall experience is positive, making it a popular getaway spot close to Houston.

This has always been our favorite campsite from when we tent camped until purchasing our RV over a year ago. We love the heavily wooded campsites and the trails. A bathroom has been shut down for several years. We have enjoyed the walk out sites option until they became risky to secure on a last minute basis so almost feel maybe open them up for rental also.

Excellent campground! We absolutely loved this park and had planned to make this an annual tradition but were told on the day we checked out that the forest service is taking back over and the park will be shut down for an unknown amount of time. Please don’t change anything! It’s absolutely perfect the way it is!

We always enjoy camping at Double Lake and it's in fact our favorite "go-to" camping spot. The sites are always kept neat and ready for the next camper. We were told that it will be closed on January 1, 2024 to campers for an undetermined length of time. We're keeping our fingers crossed that it won't be closed for long. We will anxiously wait to read more details about the plans the forest service has for it.

The lake at Double Lake is a disaster.because of plant growth taking over the lake. You cant put a small boat in the lake or fish off of the shore. Not a good campout for us and we will not return to this campground until the associated website assures us that the lake has been cleared.
