What Guests Are Saying
Double Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful and clean park set in a tranquil wooded environment, ideal for hiking and biking. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, well-maintained sites, and clean restrooms. While some facilities need updates and there's limited fishing due to lily pads, the overall experience is positive, making it a popular getaway spot close to Houston.

We always enjoy staying at Double Lake. It was our 54th anniversary so we celebrated by going into Coldspring for lunch at The Hope. Great place to eat.

Good place to leave the stress of daily life into the wilderness. Love that the bike trails where feets away from out site. Sites are level good electrical connections and water pressure. The campground is clean and well kept. The bathrooms a little old but clean. Some needed soap in the dispenser. The trails are amazing. Definitely a spot to come back. Word of advice come well prepare with food and liquids. The nearest store is 20 minutes away both north and south of the campground..

On our recent trip, no one was in the check-in station, and if we had not visited the area previously we would have been lost. The roads are narrow and need to be aware of some tight spaces. Our site was great, the only thing missing was waste hookup. If you need this not all sites have this. However, you can pull into any available site to use as a dump station when departing. Never saw a park host until our 3rd day. Beautiful trails, and lakes and wildlife is abundant.

We visited in late May and the campsite was pretty empty. We camped in a tent for two nights. Nice camping pad, water and a toilet were readily available, and the site was under the shade of the beautiful forest. Close by was the lake, and my brother and I especially enjoyed the bike trails. The only thing that rubbed us the wrong way was, when the 'host' came to check us in, and we told him where we were from, he said, "Well, I'm sorry to hear that" - an obviously political diss establishing his conservative persuasion. Not good for a national park. But, hey, it's East Texas. I wholly recommend staying at Double Lake!

Overall a great park with a nice lake and trails. Small swimming area and a few fishing spots around the lake.
