What Guests Are Saying
Sandy Creek Park is praised for its peaceful atmosphere, cleanliness, and well-maintained grounds, making it a favorite among campers. Guests appreciate the spacious, level sites, helpful staff, and beautiful views of the lake. However, there are concerns about the outdated restrooms and difficulties with the dump station, which could use some improvement.

The primitive campground is absolutely perfect. There are covered tables, reasonably well mown grass, and a level spot to pitch a tent in said grass (no tent pads). Water is available, and plenty of down wood nearby for a small fire. There is a restroom ~100 yards away. It’s a comfortable “last night stay” on my way home.

Great site, clean and kept up close to the water. Large tree that didn’t allow us to put out the canopy but otherwise no concerns. Not real close to restrooms if that is important.

The campground is clean and quite. The spaces are large. We enjoyed having a covered picnic table area. The down side is there really isn't any place to swim at this park. Overall we enjoyed our stay and plan to go back.

No security at the park. No tags for inside your vehicle or any other method to insure that you are a paying guest. No check in at the gate and no gates period at the entrance.
Strong smell of marijuana at the boat ramp and at least one site.
I’ve been camping at Sandy Creek for 40+ years and have never seen it like this.

Park was nice and clean. The host that hailed from nearby Vidor, Texas was most polite and personable. We were just passing through for the night and this was a good choice.
The week before as we were passing through in the other direction, we stayed a night at Magnolia Ridge COE on the NW side of the highway/lake. That park is aptly named for the HUGE Magnolia trees that were all in bloom with their sweet smelling flowers.
Both parks are very mature in age and somewhat dated and that kind of keeps them less popular.
For entrance to Sandy Creek, the preferred entry is to take enter from Hwy 777 at Beech Grove onto road 155 rather than road 156 off of US190. It is in far better condition although still somewhat a bit narrow and rough.
