About Red Cliffs Campground

Red Cliffs Recreation Area includes a campground, day use areas, a non-motorized trail system, and interpreted public use sites. Dinosaurs left their footprints, now visible in the sandstone. Ancestral Puebloans lived here in the 10th century, growing corn, beans, and squash along Quail and Leeds Creek. Mid-19th century pioneers farmed here, supplying the area’s silver miners with food. Located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the Recreation Area is managed to conserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the public lands.

Super cool place and very nice campground the water was on and the bathrooms where open, we brought a small RV (a big one won't fit, even a somewhat normal but on the big side won't fit) so we didn't need the bathrooms, but everyone ended up showering so we did use the water to fill up. The kids loved climbing on the rocks and Red Reef trail is very fun. We also did Quail Canyon and that is a lot of trail finding and climbing. To really get all the way up the Red Reef trail you would need to swim, with some climbing you can avoid swimming for a few miles but I climbed to the top of the mountain and it gets so cliffy that you can't get back down to the creek if you aren't in it. The Red Reef trail is extremely popular so the lower day use parking lot is jam packed on holiday weekends. So even thought there is only 11 camp spots you will still see a lot of people.

The trail access is great, but be aware most sites are significantly unlevel. We are good at leveling our ClassB van, however we could not get within 2% level.

The site we originally booked had an extreme slope that made it impossible to level our camper van. There was no description of this on the site map. When we called Recreation.gov to change sites we were tole we could not do so as we had already occupied the site. We ended up having to book another site and pay an additional reservation fee. In addition we were told we could not use our Senior Pass for the new reservation. The new site we booked was fine and the campground overall was lovely. However the reservation process was deplorable.

I loved the small number of sites. The area is spectacular. The vault toilets were not great, but they never are!
