About Big Creek (gifford Pinchot National Forest, Wa)

Situated in the vicinity of majestic Mount Rainier, Big Creek is a family campground nestled among Douglas firs, hemlock, alders and maples. The lush vegetation offers plenty of privacy between sites. The sites at Big Creek form a loop, with only a handful of sites sitting along the banks of Big Creek. Open from mid-May through late September, Big Creek provides an alternative to the campgrounds at Mount Rainier National Park, which can get very crowded during the summer.

I enjoyed this campground! Was close to the western entrance of Mt Rainier NP. Very nice sites, with great CG host.

Our campsite was near the creek which was super nice! Water, ‘bathrooms’ and decent service so can’t complain. There was a rooster somewhere near the property that would not stop, but manageable.

This was my second time staying at big-creek campground. The campground was very clean, and it’s very close to the park entrance which is nice. The main issue we had this time around was a family one site over with young screaming children, who disrupted the peace of the otherwise quiet campground. When the guests are peaceful and respectful this campground is lovely to stay at.

I love this campsite. Small, very quiet, beautiful, close to Mt Rainier Paradise Visitor Center (about 40min). Vault restroom had strong odors though. We reserved campsite 007, because it was listed as a group site, but it is actually not a group site. We had 1 small trailer, 1 tent and 2 vehicles, and the site was full. If you are looking for a site that holds more equipment than those, you should reserve for other group sites.

We had campsite #2 for a night, and it was just what we were looking for. Easy access to water, privy, and entrance/exit. It was located along a babbling stream, which gave it a great atmosphere (without many bugs!). The campground was kept very clean. Minutes from Mt Rainier NP! Would visit again!

There was a loud rooster somewhere nearby and we heard people screaming throughout the night.

The campsites are nice, but some are really small. We booked site 24 for 4 people (2 tents) and I'm not sure we could have done it had another friend not booked a multi-site. The sites aren't super private, but it's a small, quiet campground that's close to Rainier! The pit toilets were very clean, but had a constant strong odor, which we haven't been used to and typically stay at sites with pit toilets. We'd definitely stay again.
