Marcus Island Campground

Oh boy I have a lot to say. Marcus island is lovely. And the whole drive there, nearby towns of kettle falls and Colville and chewelah also lovely. Like breathtaking. The are is fantastic. We already booked a trip back but with more knowledge of the campground now. I caught a fish which in 46 years I have never successfully done. And I failed to reel in two other fish. So if you like fishing. Even shore fishing. This is the place for you. The drive there is seamless no scary parts at all (I have driving anxiety) the views are fantastic. The water is surprisingly not cold for being a huge lake/columbia river. That said. You need to choose your site carefully. I tent camp. Honestly I am not sure this place is perfect for tent camping I think maybe it’s made for the rv people. But I’m doing it anyway and so did a few others. A lot of the site are better for rvs than tents. Site 11 which I was in was good for tents but did not get enough shade and it was a heatwave 98-100 degrees all weekend. Shade is an issue in a lot of the sites. Second. The bathroom doors do not lock. They have a lock but the lock doesn’t lock properly on either one. That is not great. I had to sing every time I was in there to make sure nobody walked in. There is NO attendant. Nobody is in charge. I have no idea who even verifies people have paid. It seems like the honor system. Someone changes the toilet paper but other than that and the fire dept coming around on the 4th of July several times I had no idea who we answer to. It’s anarchy. But everything was peaceful. Finally if you do not have a boat of some sort you may not enjoy the water as much. We have kayaks and if we hadn’t the water access would leave us little beach and an unsafe one at that. A weird one next to the dock. We would kayak to secluded beaches to fish and swim. It’s fun but don’t expect beach life. It’s rocks and rushes. Choose your campsite well. tour in advance if you can. Love this place though!

This is a lovely private campsite. So scenic, and when the inlet has water in it, it's a great place to launch paddle boards and kayaks.

Marcus Island is a favorite campground close to home. Geese, bald eagles, and a carpet of pink stork bill wildflowers could be seen all around.

The campground wasn't very full when we went so it was very peaceful. The bathroom was clean and the garbage receptacle was handy. It looks like a great place to kayak. We've gotten spoiled with electricity and water hookups, but knew there weren't any there so that's a neutral comment. Our only complaint is that there was a lot of garbage around the site. The people who were closest to us made the same remark - they had to clean up the site before settling in.

An incredibly beautiful spot, very under used. Perhaps that is because the
Tweakers are allowed to stay. We were one of only 3 campers out of 25 spots. The party across from us had obviously been there a long time due to the amount of stuff they had. They worked on a car the first day we were there however without success but lots of noise and lots people. The next day they didn't get up until late which was good but the dogs were barking and no one tried to stop them, friends came and left all day, that night 2 cars came in and out thru out the night with the lights waking us up. Then around 3 o'clock in the morning they wandered around the campground shining a flashlight everywhere, in our tent and up into the trees. After awhile they said they "couldn't find it" well we didn't sleep for the rest of the night. At 6 am they looked like they were packing up but they were just moving boxes and totes of stuff around. We broke down camp 2 days early and left. Never ever would we return. Beautiful setting, unfortunately inaccessible water (super rocky, hard to walk on and steep sides) bathrooms were clean and the rangers came by once a day but never stopped. We know the tweaker folks didn't pay because I looked it up on the website. Makes me the fool for paying when it's not enforced. I love the National parks but our experiences have been not very good lately. I know it must be hard to confront tweakers but they will be running the parks soon. Very disappointed the Rangers didn't do anything. No we didn't call them or stop them as we have learned to mind our own business and bug out if you don't like it. In the past the park rangers have actually made matters worse. However I still support and love the National Parks and Park Rangers.

We had a great site and experience. But no dump or water available. Several nice sites with water views, but not much shade.

Absolutely amazing campsite. Quiet, close to water and small town of Marcus. Lot's of recreational options close by.

I had a great campsite next to the lake. It was hard to find since the campground does not provide signage. A map at the entrance kiosk would be helpful as well as notifying campers that there are no spigots for water.

Marcus Is Campground has about 20 sites, some quite private. Our group had 3 sites (17-19) at the south end, water on both sides, easy access to lake, beautiful views of surrounding landscapes. Toilets were fine and well stocked with paper, garbage picked up daily. No potable water however. There is hiking in the area and Kettle Falls is 5 miles away for shopping. Highly recommend this Campground.
