Highland Ridge was the only campsite I didn't have planned-out weeks in advance. I like to keep at least one evening 'non-booked' so I can see how I feel and how far I want to drive that day.
I made the reservation about 4pm(local time) the day I was driving thru. I had no problem finding the campground, however, it is a few miles off the highway thru Amish country(watch for buggies).
The campground was nice and the bathrooms/showers are one of the cleanest I have ever seen! It is a little 'dark' in the actual campground, but I imagine many campers like it. A camp host drove by after I arrived to make sure my vehicle matched the description on the reservation- much appreciated! 5 stars!!!

Site was large, flat and easy to back our 30ft travel trailer into. Staff was very nice as were the other campers. We joked that it’s the first campground where there was more dogs than young kids. I’m sure that has to do with the fact that the beach is 10 mile drive but yet we can see it from the lookout at the campground. It was interesting but no plans to go back since there isn’t much here. We prefer a campground somewhere in between this laid back one and a party campground.

We liked the nicely separated, well wooded spacing between the freshly graveled clean sites. It was thick enough to provide some sense of privacy, even though you could still see that the neighboring campsite was occupied. The shower house was kept clean and was nice. The heavily wooded separation between sites also extends behind the sites and keeps the lake from being viewed from your campground site as well. We were surprised at how few mosquitoes there were considering the water, heavy woods, and underbrush.
The beach is not near the campground, so needs to be driven to, and a pass gotten from the campground host for use of the beach facility without having to pay the same fee that non campers must pay.
All in all it seems like a great place to stop for a nights rest along your journeys trail, but for us, not really a destination campground in and of itself.

Very nice park. Many sites are not very level and a little tired but we loved it.

Site 8 - flat, good size, pretty private + path to modern restrooms, which were very clean. Exactly what we were looking for.

Great campsite! Water and bathrooms close, lots of trails. very nice showers and bathrooms! There are outlets for a hair dryer in the bathroom, it's nice to be able to dry your hair while camping. There's no dogs allowed at the beach, though. We drove down there and found they weren't allowed when we got there. Nice playground that the kids enjoyed, and there are activities with the park rangers for the kids too. Camp hosts are WONDERFUL! We will be back here for sure!
