What Guests Are Saying
Rex Hale campground is highly praised for its beautiful, well-maintained sites and friendly camp host, Tom, who is noted for his helpfulness and attentiveness. The campground offers a peaceful and picturesque outdoor experience, with convenient amenities such as water and electricity at some sites. While there are only vault toilets, they are clean and well-kept, and the location provides easy access to Yellowstone's east entrance.

Very quiet due to few campers - YNP was closed from the flooding. But, it was nice to camp without a crowd around us.

The campground is super, but we were there during some of the bad weather that is flooding the park now. The restrooms were very clean the park layout very good. The campground location is perfect close to the east entrance to the park, and fairly close to Cody.

Rex Hale hands down is a great spot. The pads are well maintained, I have stayed her twice (Aug 2021 & May 2022). The location being just 18 miles from the east entrance is great, not too close to the road at least I didn’t feel close, barely hear road noise, great view, quiet camp ground, everyone is respectful and the bonus…no cell service at all, so work can’t get ahold of ya. Both visits we were tent camping, so definitely were bear aware, we didn’t have water on our pad due to outage but that didn’t matter we brought what we needed so wasn’t a factor at all. Weather was what we expected, that little snow storm we got the day we arrived was a hoot, but the tent we have had a wood burning stove so we were nice and comfy inside (60 F) while it was 33 F outside. Saw some wildlife (No grizzlies) but know they are in the area (traveling the river bank) so be bear aware and don’t cook near your sleeping area if you are a tent camper.

Beautiful landscape and well maintained campsites with bear lockers. The last campground before Yellowstone’s east entrance that tent camping is permitted.
Bring your water with you because the water faucets do not work.

Rex Hale is a gem, you can't beat the remoteness & closeness to Yellowstone National Park. Forest Service personnel maintain this campground impeccably, the camp hosts are a wealth of information, they kind and really made my wife and I feel welcome. We were there August 24th-27th saw some decent grizzly bear tracks along the river, so you know they are in the area. Rex Hale was the closets campground to Yellowstone were you could still tent camp, camp grounds closer required hard-side campers due to bear activity. So finding the grizzly bear tracks along the river just about 200 yards from were our tent was, made you really double the effort of following the rules for tent camping in grizzly bear country. Rex Hale will be a return campground for us.

We have been here several years and love it. The hosts were very friendly and personable. The toilets were immaculate and the park was neatly kept. 9/5-9/9.
