Rex Hale Campground is highly praised for its beautiful, scenic location and excellent maintenance, with many guests appreciating the friendly and accommodating camp host, Tom. The camp offers clean facilities, including spotless vault toilets, and some sites with water and electricity, enhancing the camping experience. While the campground will transition to a "First Come, First Served" system, it remains a recommended choice for those seeking a peaceful outdoor retreat near Yellowstone.

The campsite is really a nice site and Tom, the camp host, was really nice. We had electric and water most nights, but the electric/water sites are limited and we had to switch to a non-electric/water site for some nights because of the way reservations work on Recreation.Gov. The biggest drawback for us was that there isn't a dump station in the campsite for campers. There is for the host, but not campers. The closest dump station was in Cody and that meant a 2 hour round trip, which pretty much takes up half a morning, especially if you also have to move a site. Apparently this is the same for all campsites outside of the Yellowstone border. The sites inside Yellowstone had dump stations. Because of this, we will try to book inside the park next time. Not having a dump station anywhere close was a huge issue for us as we stayed for over a week. If you are staying a short time, it may not be for you.
