What Guests Are Saying
North Tongue is a peaceful and clean campground with well-maintained bathrooms, ample space for larger trailers, and great opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing, including moose and deer. While some sites have slopes and noise from nearby recreational traffic can be an issue, overall, visitors appreciate the friendly camp host and the cozy atmosphere. Reservations are recommended due to the campground's popularity, and the addition of electricity would enhance the experience.

We were fortunate to get oneof the upper sites with a small tributary to the North Tongue running right behind it. Very pleasant spot. Super friendly campground hostess who put triangle folds on the TP rolls each morning - just like the Ritz Carlton only without the flush.
Beautiful expansive landscape just west of this campground and the walk to the Medicine Wheel is worth it just for the views of it. Some great fishing nearby also.
Only complaint came from my wife who did not appreciate the speed at which Forest Service workers drove the road just outside the campground to get to and from the work center. They raised clouds of dust making walking out there impossible.

Campground was very clean, orderly, and nicely set along a good sized, fishable creek. The camp hosts visited within a short time, and briefed me about anything important. The toilets were spotless, and even included a motion-sensing light to stay oriented at night. There is plenty of room between sites. Two of the 12 sites are FF. This campground is standard, non-electric with clean, cold water from two hand pumps. The sites are generally level, but not absolutely flat. There is plenty of shade, and on dry days, there may be some dust from the FS road leading to the campground. Good firewood is available for $6/bundle, as well as maps, at the camp host site (first site on left). This is a nice, pleasant campground that I will be staying in again.

We have been staying at the North Tongue campground for many years. Beautiful campsites, always clean restrooms, the camp host Lenny is always so friendly and helpful. She takes pride in making it a great stay!

Loved our tent camping stay at North Tongue Campground. The campsite was clean and well cared for. The campsite hosts were kind and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay at the North Tongue with the babbling steam running by our tent lulling us to sleep.

We really enjoy this campground and it's location. It's off the hiway but not to far. We had a cow moose and her calf came thru our camp and crossed the fence. Also, down the road was a bull moose and a cow.
Fishing usually is good, but this year was unusually hot and dry. It stresses the fish.

Nice quiet campground, good hosts and clean bathrooms. Look for moose between the campground and the nearby picnic area. I’m hoping for site 3 when I return to watch wildlife in the meadow, but my site was great for falling asleep to the sounds of the creek

Kids enjoyed the water pump and elks visited us in the late afternoon. Small stream nearby. Great stop on our way to Mount Rushmore.

Small, primitive campground with the best hosts and cleanest pit toilets anywhere I’ve been. Moose are seen frequently, both beside/in the river as well as in the willows/forests, so be aware of bulls and cows with calves and give them their space. It’s awesome to see so much wildlife.
