What Guests Are Saying
Mammoth Campground is praised for its beautiful scenery, convenient location near Lamar Valley, and friendly hosts who maintain a clean environment. Many campers enjoyed the spacious and accessible sites, as well as the wildlife sightings, particularly elk and bison. However, some visitors noted that only one bathroom was open during their stay, leading to inconvenience, and there were occasional issues with campsite reservations. Overall, it's considered a great spot for exploring Yellowstone, especially in the off-season.

Mammoth CG is our favorite campground in Yellowstone NP. It is quiet and smaller; less busy than the other campgrounds in the Park. Also, the reservation system for Mammoth CG (recreation.gov) is much better than the system used to reserve a spot at the other campgrounds in Yellowstone NP. We really like the ability to reserve an actual site of our choice 6 months ahead, or 2 weeks ahead. Very convenient. The hosts at Mammoth CG were friendly and available if needed. Restrooms were clean and spaced nicely throughout the campground. Beautiful views from many of the sites in the campground.

Stayed in Site 42, B and it was wonderful. The camp hosts across the way were super nice and available if we needed anything (James & Cindy... oddly we are also 'James and Cindy'.. lol).
This was a jumping off point for several areas of Yellowstone - went to Lamar Valley, Roosevelt Lodge for breakfast, Gardiner to go to church on Sunday, down to Grand Prismatic and all points in between... Roaring Mountain is pretty freaking cool.
We had 4 nights here and spent every day exploring this area of the park. Super location.
Oh.. showers at the Mammoth Hotel cabins were not great... I was a bit surprised and felt like they were kind of gross. Go into Gardiner where the laundry place is.. they have showers that are private, spacious, and very clean.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is super convenient for those traveling through the north entrance like we were. Bathrooms were clean and well positioned relative to our sites. Easy to get in and out. Fewer amenities than other campgrounds we stayed in the park, this is a smaller campground.
