This campground must be reserved on Recreation.gov which makes it very expensive due to the eight dollar reservation fee which has to be paid even for same day.
Not every loop has paid toilets which makes it a long way to walk to the toilet. The only set of flashing toilets were locked, a sign announced the arrival of Porta Potties “soon”. The only thing that actually worked with the water taps.
Apparently there are showers and flushing toilets at Lynx Lake which is not accessible from the campground and requires a separate entry fee.
I will not go back to this campground. Unfortunately around Prescott there are very little camping options and the dispersed camping nearby is all taking up by people who seem to be living there permanently.

Great campsite! 15D was more private than other campsites and right next to a trail that leads to Lynx Lake. Only downside is the lake nearby is half empty, but great walking path around it. Clean bathrooms, short drive into Prescott — recommend walking around Watson Lake!

The campground itself was beautiful and the site (B9) was PERFECT for our party (8 adults). The reason I’m only giving it a 3 star review was for issues related to the restroom:

The site restrooms were closed (we were not told this upon arrival or before) although the sign said Porta potties would be coming, there were none delivered. Anytime anyone needs to use the restroom they had to walk or drive to a different section of the camp. It was not close at all. There is no running water around B9 either so thst needs to be accounted for as well (not too much of an issue for us).

People should also be aware that the lake is drained, so water activities are minimal if that’s why you chose this campground (for a lake).

A very well kept and nice campground. The tent pad had plenty of room and it was nice being back away from the road with the parking spot blocking the view of the road or any other campsites. We could not figure out how to check in which was a little stressful upon arrival but had no other issues. Not many places to hang a hammock if that’s something you like to do.

Site No. 20 D

Fair price. Very clean bathrooms with no flies or smell. Plenty of room to park a trailer or 2nd vehicle in this particular site. The as of late April '25, the lake was a bit of a let down. A full lake would have made my stay worthy of 5 stars. I'll be back next year once again for the Whiskey Off Road race!

Campsite was clean and easy to set up. However bathrooms were closed in the loop and no directions in where to find functioning ones. Had to drive to the nearest one. Based on past reviews it seems like they’ve been this way for awhile and no indication when they’ll be back. Would have been useful to know before I made the reservation.

Just returned from Lynx Lake Campground, A loop. As always, beautiful, well laid out campground. However, a few multi year problems continue.
1. The two flush toilets closed that service A, B, E, F loops. No sign of any effort to open. Door signs says porta potties on the way soon. Not yet. Multi-year problem. Any effort to fix in the 5 months campground closure before the April 1 campground opening? Only alternative for A, B, E, F loops is to hike to the vault toilets in other loops, perhaps in the middle of the night. Note, there was no message in the campground website stating these closures - only a message about the low lake level. An advance warning before arriving would have been useful to allow for cancellations.
2. All vehicles entering the campground encounter a three-way intersection up the entrance road. First sign say B loop to the left, A loop to the right. No designation for the middle loop. When at the intersection, drivers will face a sign head on with a one way arrow (no loop designation) to head to the right. The result is the majority of new drivers take this route that leads only to the A loop. In the process of a day, this consists of dozens of wayward vehicles looping through A loop in an effort to find their campsite in another loop. Proper signs, including for the middle road at the 3 way intersection, would help. Or alternatively, paint the directions on the road.

Beautiful area with spacious campsites. Good trails. Unfortunately the lake was closed due a faulty valve at the dam. Hopefully fixed soon.
