Primitive, but.
I like the composting toilet because there is no offensive smell in there due to proper ventilation. There is a convenient water pump too to get drinking water when you need it. The campsites are all level and sit relatively high throughout this location. It rained a great deal due to the strong monsoon season we are having this year. Despite that, the campsite (# 15) drained very well so my tent never flooded. The only missing amenity is a working shower. If it had that - I would rate this site as 5 stars.

It was my first time camping in a national forest and the experience was lovely. The sites are spread out enough that while we caught glimpses of our neighbors, we didn't have to feel like we were sharing our entire weekend with them. Quiet hours were respected and I enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the cicadas. The toilets were well maintained and only on one visit—just before bed Saturday night—did I notice any smell, but it was gone by the next morning, We did struggle to find level areas of shade at our site, and spoke to some neighbors who had the same problem. I would recommend bringing an extra tarp to create your own shade. Mosquitos were a bit heavy (it being monsoon season), so we ended up using our repellent up halfway through the weekend and having to buy more. The campground is only 5 miles away from Walmart, but feels secluded and away from it all.

The only issue I had was how close the dumpster was to my campsite. It was right next to the restrooms. A BEAR was sniffing around there in the middle of the night. Being in a tent, I was terrified. I recommend getting bear box's for food storage and moving the dumpster far away from any campsites. The bear was about 100ft from my tent.

I love camping at Yavapai campground.
I was so disappointed to see the prescribed burn this spring but lots of growth has happened during this incredible monsoon season. I hope to post photos from last year, this spring and this august to show the comparisons from the exact same spots!

Loved this place! Spent my first solo camping trip here and had a very pleasant experience. It rained a ton but the tent pad space didn't flood or collect a lot of water. The bathrooms smelled great (love the composting toilets)! The lake is a 2 mile walk down the road and it was totally worth seeing- very pretty. I had enough service (TMobile) to make phone calls and text but websites wouldn't load haha- which is fine, you're camping. It's a rather small campground but felt cozy and safe, would definitely go again.

The campsite is great, spacious and opens out towards Granite Mountain area. It’s a double site so you have room for two tents. We saw some deer in the evening and something bigger visited our tent in the night. We didn’t see what animal it was but it wasn’t a deer, it left on its own after a while. I definitely encourage anyone staying here to be aware of the animals in the area, and be prepared. There was also an INSANE amount of red and black ants all over the site so be ready for that. We have a nice time and would come back again in the future.

My campsite was joined to another by a shared parking area. The folks in the adjacent site had a huge 5th wheel that loomed over our campsite, and made us feel like we had no privacy. Their generator was extremely loud and was on for the entire time except 9pm - 5am. I would not recommend this campground for those camping in tents. The views of the mountains were beautiful, but it was hard to fully enjoy with all the generator noise.
