This is a wonderful getaway spot... the only spoiling factor was the campers across from us, and there were a group of 4 sites that were all together in back-to-back sites in the middle of the loop, were running generators nearly all day starting at 7am and late into the night. As late as after 11pm, even though there are rules against it, there's nobody to enforce the generator rules that late (nice camp host but he's far away and likely asleep).
We are totally solar/battery/inverter and are proud to not pollute the environment with exhaust and loud gen noise. Please everyone get with the 21st century!

It's a boondocking site (mostly dry camping), but it's better than you would think. Try to reserve your spot ahead of time in one of the odd-numbered spaces. There is potable water on site in several locations if you need to top off, or possibly fill when you get there with your camper. Some of the spaces require you to park parallel to the road, and some are back-in spaces. Get the back in spaces. The lake is pretty full currently so the views are gorgeous. There is a LGA grocery and hardware store about 7 miles away which is pretty convenient. Camp host is on site all 3 times we have been there. Pretty quiet, other campers seemed respectful to the "quiet hours" and didn't hear any generators running after 10pm. I would recommend this site to anyone.

Cholla Campground is stunning and there are plenty of places to walk with our dog which is a big plus. Campsites feel pretty private and the Tonto National Monument is close by. The landscaping is beautiful

Camp host had not cleaned out the fire pit from previous use. Camp host never came to check us in, nor did we ever see one driving around. Seems anyone could camp for free in unused spots.
Btw, “Javalina” is misspelled on your website that describes this campground.

One of our favorite campgrounds, very well organized and run by the US Forest Service. Outstanding hosts (Jack and Joan) in our loop, made our stay especially enjoyable.
