Facilities were clean and maintained. The women's shower light turns off mid shower so bring a light. The map on Recreation.gov is nonexistent so look it up on Google images. If you reserve a site online and you have a boat the campground host doesn't know about the boat pass they have had for the last 5 yard so I just put my printed out reservations on my dashboard at the boat ramp.

Water always seems to be an issue here. Other than water, nice place and the campground hosts are fantastic.

Very nice, developed FS campground. Plentiful access to potable water, garbage service, and nearby on-site RV dump station. Free showers and flush toilets. Showers are heated by solar panels, and in winter, the water is lukewam, and runs out quickly. Very attentive hosts. Very underutilized, and not busy. Rec.gov needs to get the site map updated, or even an old one on their website. Difficult to select a site w/o a map.. Been missing a map for a long time, now. Maybe that’s why there’s so little use?

We really like the campground, and it's proximity to the lake and the Tonto Ruins. We aren't boaters and we don't fish, but we like the campgrounds in this area. This is out first time at Windy Hill, having stayed at Schoolhouse in the past. We camped during a slow time where the campground had only a handful of other campers. The facilities were neat and clean, and we liked the sites. We enjoyed our stay except one thing keeps me from giving it 5 stars. While very nice, friendly and helpful, the camps hosts each had bright flashing lights in their site that ran all night, every night. One was rope lights surrounding their rig, but the other had extremely bright flashing lights on the front of their rig and underneath as well as the entire outside of the rig brightly lit up. These light were bright enough to light up a whole section of the campground, including sites hundreds of feet away. The main offender was the large LED lights on the front of the rig. Amazingly, during a night visit to the lower Tonto Cliff dwellings, we could look back toward the campground nearly a mile and a half away, and these lights were clearly visible. I realize it's common for people to place lights under their rigs during extended stays to keep rodents away (a myth, but that's another story) but these lights were bright enough there shouldn't have been a rodent within a mile of the campground. Our site was in an area mostly shielded from the lights, but there were many others surrounding the sites, where the flashing lights would certainly be an issue for people trying to sleep, or even sit outside as bright lights strobed in their eyes. I couldn't imagine camping right across the road from these sites. Had they been regular, and less bright rope lights, it wouldn't have been so bad, but bright strobing lights, are altogether different.

First time to the Windy Hill campground. It was very clean, and the bathroom was spotless! The showers were clean and refreshing. They could have been a little hotter, but they were very adequate.
The campground host was very helpful and courteous! By the way, we were in the Coyote section. Fishing was a little slow but, that's fishing.......

Wonderful trip. Unfortunately we were unable to launch from here due to the low water and closure of the ramp. Did shore line fishing instead, lots of good exercise. The camp sites are large and most of the ones at Windy Hill have at least one tree. The views from our site were beautiful. The restrooms and showers are spotless.

Very clean sites. Clean bathrooms. Potable water. Fairly private sites, not right next to each other. Friendly hosts. Fire rings, and tent sites are well kept.
