What Guests Are Saying
Cottonwood Creek is a beautiful, well-maintained campground offering a peaceful retreat with clean facilities and a variety of nearby activities. Visitors appreciated the solitude, cleanliness, and natural beauty, making it ideal for camping and outdoor photography. However, some campsites were uneven or small, and there were occasional wasps, but overall, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives, with many guests planning to return.

Great site but unfortunately no bear boxes. Camp host was nice and kept all sites clean. Only downfall was the smell of the restrooms, they were clean but one of the worst smelling pit toilets.

The weather was perfect, the campground was nearly empty, and the host was friendly and helpful.

A quiet lovely campground off 89 just four miles south of Sierraville. Lovely trees and a great CG host. Enjoy.

Our maiden voyage with the trailer proved to be too much for the 1999 Ford F-250. We were 30 miles from home when the engine started spewing oil. We had a two year plan, before we bought a new truck, but circumstances showed us otherwise. Our camping trip wasn’t canceled, instead my husband's brother came and picked us up and hooked the trailer to his truck and handed us his keys and said, “Go have fun! Don’t let your weekend get ruined because your truck broke down!” We headed to Cottonwood Creek campground and were met by the most gracious camp host Steve. We arrived late due to the issues with our truck breaking down and he was so helpful, not only helpful, he was very cordial and he spent time over the weekend, chatting with us and we made a new friend. Even though we had glitches with our first time out with our new trailer, we had a smile on our face the entire weekend. We even took a day trip over to Reno and came back with a new truck which solved our problems! We are looking forward to another visit to this campground!

I like this campground and return often... a wide variety of sites from shaded and spacious to sunny and close to the next site. The lower loop has a bit of highway noise but traffic pretty much stops at dusk... occasionally on weekends bike and rod runs can be noisy. The sites close to the creek suffer some from insects. The pit toilets are typically clean but, yeah, they can smell. Weekends can be rowdy, weekdays you most likely will be by yourself. Just a couple miles from Sierraville with small store, coffee/restaurant(s). There is a quick easy botanical trail at the back of the campground with an overlook spur that isn't bad but not easy either, ask camp host for trail guide. NO CELL SERVICE... nada, nothing not even with fancy antennas...

Several problems. 1. lots and lots of mosquitos we were getting bit regardless of the 15% DEET spray. #2, Our campsite (#4), was next to the vault toilets, and boy we could smell them, throughout the day, our camp would be inundated with raw sewage smell... STAY FAR AWAY from any toilets. The toilets themselves are fairly old and the vent pipes are not very high, so I think this contributes to the smell. #3The pad length seems overestimated and the paved area is really narrow, so no parking next to your rig, and the length listed would be your rig plus the truck detached and set up which is a bit bigger. We did not have a problem, but my brother would have. #4. Some sites are relatively flat others like ours were mountainous, and sloped, there was a good 10-15' elevation difference over the course of our campsite, the area around the fire ring was pitched at about 15 deg, so no matter where you sat, your chair was at an angle, like camping on a hill. #5 The previous campers left the entire three-foot fire ring filled with bark... also not ideal and had to be removed before we could do anything to start a fire. It was not a deal and something I would have thought the camp host would have corrected. #6 out neighbors... well the some of the sites are closer than others. our neighbors decided to pitch their tent about 2 feet off of our trailer. there were also really loud and stayed up having a good time till well past 1 AM, sometimes even chopping wood... earplugs were required, but since I was aware of when they finally went to sleep, you can guess how effective they were. Our beautiful neighbors also were able to somehow also get up at 530... never saw the camp host outside of him driving his golf cart past during the day, never came to do anything about the noise. Other than the Mosquitos, raw sewage, sloped/difficult sight, noisy neighbors, the narrow pad length, and absent-feeling camp host, it wasn't too bad... unlikely to stay again though.
