What Guests Are Saying
Azalea Campground offers a beautiful and spacious setting, ideally located near Grant Grove and various hiking trails, including those to the General Sherman Tree. The campground is well-maintained, featuring clean restrooms, fresh water, and friendly park staff, contributing to a peaceful and relaxing experience. While some sites may be uneven and restrooms are a bit distant for some, the overall atmosphere, wildlife sightings, and access to nature make it a memorable destination.

Our visit was early season (end of March), so Azalea was the only campground (with only one loop) open in the park and it was on a first come, first served basis.
We felt fortunate to find a spot. It was difficult navigating how to register. A QR code to registration was provided, but there is zero reception. I understand that staffing is low and I have to believe that park rangers are doing the best they can, but a note on the board next to the QR code telling folks to go to the visitor’s center up the hill and use the free WiFi would have cleared up a lot of confusion.
Unfortunately, some folks were taking advantage of the lack of official supervision and camped in spots that were not spots at all; another group took it upon themselves to “share” a spot already paid for and occupied (with a paid tag and evidence of their occupation) by a couple who left for an hour to visit Grant Grove.
A little too much of the wild west, but a beautiful place and a great visit nonetheless.

We loved this campground. Lots of driving loops are closed during late March, so limited spots. Bathrooms were clean. Had access to sinks for washing dishes. Sites were not spread out and we felt a bit close to our neighbors. Lovely camping amongst the forest. Lots of access to hiking trails from the campground. Trail to Grant Tree and trail to Ella Falls were both nice and easy to follow. Also a trail directly to the visitor center. Rangers came through daily and kindly gave us the forecast.
