Site 14 and 15 are ideal for group sites

Great location for visiting kings canyon and Sequoia np trails. Beautiful camp ground only reason for 4 stars is like others mentioned is due to the single bathroom. Definitely not a deal breaker.

As for the last 35 years, this campground is very good. In those 35 years, it has always been first-come/first-served. It should go back to this. If you must have reservations ahead, make it only for mid-June to mid-August. By August 15th, the campgrounds are generally not filled and it would be best if there was at least one campground in Grant Grove where one could just show up and if an empty spot is available, you could take it. The reservation system makes it much harder to do that.

The site was close to General Grant grove, and it was nice and quiet.

Me and my family had an amazing time in Crystal Springs Campground last weekend, definitely one for the memory books, once again! A little sad we didn’t get to do our traditional campfire activities this year but it is definitely understandable as to why they are prohibited this season. Even so there is a lot to do around both King Canyon and Sequoia National park, like climbing Moro Rock, walking some of the many hiking trails surrounded by gigantic Redwood trees, or visiting Hume Lake! Also the wildlife around the park is very active, we had at least 3 bear sightings as well as a few deer families on our trip! Great fun for the entire family. We are definitely coming back, and sooner then expected too!

The sites at this campground are very small and very close together. You are essentially camping with the people beside you, and you are completely at their mercy.
When I pulled up to site #21, the neighboring site (a regular sized site, mind you...not a group site) had 4 cars, seven tents, 13 people and a portable toilet pop-up (which was basically set up on my site). They were blasting music and getting wasted.
I didn't even unpack my stuff, I just left. It was a complete waste of my time, my money and my effort.

The ease of access and use of facilities was excellent. Our campsite (27) was barely big enough for a tent, but it seems every other campsite is much larger and excellent. We will return!

Beautiful campground. Well maintained facilities. Rangers came through each night to make sure everything was going well.

We reserved and stayed for 3 nights and campsite #12. The campground itself was very nice- sites spaced far apart and enough privacy. But this particular campsite suffers from a lack of level areas for our 5 to 6 person tent. Nothing in the description of the site online warned us of this. Subsequently, our family slid downhill while sleeping. Another major problem is that we saw zero rangers patrolling during our entire visit. I've never experienced not seeing a ranger in a campground in my fifty years of camping in state parks or national parks on the east and west coasts. We had neighbors who were VERY loud, day and night until at least 10:30 p.m. There were 3-4 families in one campsite yelling constantly, and the kids were running through everyone's campsites. I had to tell them when quiet hours were- this is a ranger's job. The other serious and potentially disastrous problem is that campers had camp fires going during a camp fire ban. The only reason I didn't try to contact a ranger is that there was absolutely no wind. If there had been a wind, it would have been a different story. I appreciate the hard work that goes into all the behind-the-scenes to make the campground nice. I'm sure there is a lot of work that goes into making repairs and upkeep. But please, please try harder to patrol the campgrounds and educate people to make everyone's experience better and safer. Thank you.

Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki. Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible. Falling Objects- Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger. A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets. |
