It was amazing in general. Nice campsite and the campground has a lot of amenities like stores, showers, laundry. They even have an anphiteather that the rangers use to give some speechs about sequoias.

Lodgepole Campground is in a great location for exploring the two main attractions of Sequoia National Park - the Sherman tree area and the wider Giant Forest. We spent four nights there and hiked many of the trails. There's a gas station at Stoney Creek and many good trails in Sequoia National Forest along the Generals Highway going north to Kings Canyon. It's about 45 minutes to an hour to the King's Canyon area. The campground is relatively large and the amenities are good. We used the dump station and water fill, which worked out great. We stayed in two different sites with a 24 foot trailer: 184 and 27. The loop with 184 was wooded and lovely, and our site backed up to hill with boulders. However, it did not have a 24 foot driveway as indicated. It was 18 feet at best, just long enough for a truck. We had to park in the area that was meant for tents. I wouldn't recommend that loop for any trailers as all sites are short and the curves are tight with boulders and trees on the sides to navigate. We moved to site 27, which is in a section closer to the front that is more open, less wooded. The site length was great and it worked out well for solar. A potential downside of #27 is that the amphitheater is adjacent to the site. For us, it worked out as there weren't any programs running. To enter the park and get to the campground with a trailer or RV over 22 feet, be sure to go in the 180/Big Stump entrance that brings you into Kings Canyon.

The stay was nice and convenient, with easy access to services (bathroom, potable water, garbage disposal). The campground was clean, and has a store and cafeteria and pay showers (slightly less inviting). There are great trails that start in the campground, and Sequoia groves are a short drive away.

awesome time and the rangers are incredibly helpful. I only did an overnight trip and my tent got rained out but I am definitely going to come back soon! i hiked the tokopah falls trail and got some absolutely incredible pictures, as well as the surreal feeling when walking through the giant forest is incredible.

Got the chance to camp out at Lodgepole site 49 which was a great location. It sits toward an edge of the loop, with the river running across the road from the site. There is decent space between neighboring tent sites, especially since the tent pad, pick nick table and bear box are sitting atop a low mound/hill while the parking spot sits lower on actual ground level. Pros and cons with that set up, especially for larger tents or a large group since there is a slight slope to the tent pad. that wasn't a problem for my single tent. Bathrooms and water are available nearby for camp sites and within walking distance, the visitor center and market have more restrooms, coin op laundry and basic showers - bring sandals because showers are not the best maintained. The market has a restaurant, and convenience store type shopping. The visitor center has a small gift shop, park exhibits and very helpful and friendly rangers answering your every question. Also, the market and visitor centers are one of the few spots in the entire park that get any type of signal, free WiFi is available. The campground is close enough to the most recognized and therefore, more "touristy" parts of Sequoia within a short hike or short drive so it tends to be pretty crowded. Overall, probably the best campground for a comfortable, not so out-in-the-wild camping experience.

We got caught up in the Govt shutdown so we couldn't see everything we wanted. Camp ground was great and we were close by the Visitor Center and Market.

Lodgepole is the most popular campground in the park, for good reason. The bathroom facilities are decent (flush, cold water) and there is a grill/cafe, well-stocked store, and coin-operated laundry and showers. Several day hike loops are easy enough for anyone. I only wish the walk-in tent sites were a bit more ample and level.

Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.
