Sunset Campground (CA)

We loved the site! Although it was listed for a large tent, it wasn’t level enough for our REI Kingdom 8 with the vestibule and garage. So my husband and son leveled it a bit more so we could at least use the garage portion. You can hop on the trail to the General Grant at the top of the site which was great.
The only downside is that there was literally no camp host or ranger present often. Therefore, quiet hours were not enforced and it definitely got loud.

It was ok. Campground is nice. It was fogged in when we were there. Beach ok.

Loved our site, loved the location, love the sequoias!!! The campground also had a printed list of your name and reservation with dates which affirmed the process well. Loved it here and will definitely book again!!!

We were at sites 55 and 56 which were along the back of the campground, a spectacular place to watch the sunset! We also appreciated the ability to walk to the General Grant Grove trails right from the campground. Also found the information at the visitors center (also walkable) helpful and at the suggestion of a ranger there, we drove down to Sequoia and General Sherman Tree parking and walked from there down to Moro Rock (6 miles or so) and then used the shuttle system to get back to up to the parking area. We walked among the sequoias, along a ridge looking out over the canyon to the high sierras and then climbed Moro rock for the final hurrah! It was truly a breathtaking experience.

I was only there to sleep for 1 night. Arrived around 7pm, no one was there to check me in but a sign said if I had a reservation, just go to my site. I had no issues. Set camp up, took it down early in am and left around 6:30am. No one was there to check me out. Noise level was manageable after dark, nothing crazy. Close to Kings Canyon visitor's center which was nice. I'd definitely camp here again. There's no cell service there though...so keep that in mind if it matters to you.

We camped at Sunset because I was sick and had to cancel the reservation at Lodgepole. Sunset was conveniently close to the Kings Canyon Visitor Center so the market was nearby for ice. Sunset is also close to Grant Tree. The campground itself was pretty good. Camp sites were a little close together so you need to choose one that looks really farther away from the others. But in reality they are more bunched together. Some tent pads are kind of hilly. I tried to look at the pictures and hope for the best. Negatives are the people. Some makes fires and make noise/talk all night. Some latinos made a lot of noise and screaming, but they went to bed by 10. Other than that, it was good. Weather was great for camping (50 - 74F). Not cold from June 24-27.

Amazing sunset view. nice crowd, nice woods. Water and bathroom are close by, but no shower though. Really cold at night, come prepared.
