What Guests Are Saying
Chapman Campground is praised for its stunning natural beauty, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a top choice for campers. Many reviews highlight the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the peaceful atmosphere, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. However, some guests noted limited parking near the reservoir and challenges finding flat tent sites, particularly for larger tents.

Campground was great. Had to be very cautious however; apparently there were bears roaming the area looking for food!

Nice, clean and quiet campground. The bathrooms were very clean. It was also a nice luxury to have running water near our campsite so we could wash our hands! The bear locker was a good big size a well. Very well kept camping area. Would love to visit again next summer!

We booked this site about 2 weeks before. We were excited about the spot being that it was right on the river. After a 5 hour trip there with 3 young boys, we finally arrive and notice our spot had different names on the sign. After talking to the camp host she told us that tent camping wasn't allowed because of the bears. This was not indicated on the web page and she said sometimes this change can occur at any given time. I wish we would have been at least contacted then we could have changed our plans. It's a shame because the campsite really did look beautiful and our spot looked amazing. Maybe we'll try again next year but call ahead of time. We ended up having to camp in the national forest but at least it was free.

This was one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have visited. Our tent was surrounded by young aspen trees, the river sound was peaceful, and the campsites were widely spaced. Deer visited our campsite and the flowers and mushrooms and trees were impressive. Don't miss the nearby trail to Chapman Lake (USDA trail 1923; access through the Norrie Colony along Frying Pan Road).

awesome campground! quiet and no bear cancelation ;) i did call the number listed on the site and they were amazing on up to date info. bathrooms were cleaned. i would say if you are going here, def go via independence pass up through aspen and then through basalt. if you want to off road hardcore and know what you are doing, you can take hagerman pass but you've been warned. i took that route from leadville via hagerman, and although fun to off road for 1.5 hours for 11 miles, i was done. i did pop my tire but luckily had a spare and glenwood springs was 1.5 hours away. enjoy!
