About Redstone

Redstone Campground is set amidst a scattering of aspen groves on a ridge above the Crystal River at 7,800 feet, creating an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest. Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer wonderful views of red rock outcroppings and cliffs, though an understory of tall grass and a scattered forest provides plenty of privacy.

The location of this campground is absolutely beautiful, with red rock cliffs and partial views of Mt. Sopris. The little town of Redstone is a must see. Penny Hot Springs is a few miles away (although closed due to COVID).
I stayed in site 34, which was shared with 35. This is not ideal, but the only option available.
The price seemed a bit high ($34 plus tax and fees) considering the sites in the Mech loop do not have hook ups.

Red Stone Campground is one of the gems of the USFS campground system. The setting is beyond beautiful, and the people who oversee the operation of things are first rate individuals< caring, serious about their jobs, fair, and kind. The facilities get better every year, and it's heartening to know that the people who care for the campground have an interest in the kind of experience their guests have. I can't say enough about how pleasant it is to be there when we get the chance.
Red Stone Campground is close to the town of the same name an all its amenities. We always walk to town to sit on the riverside green and have an ice cream cone. Our dog loves the nearby Crystal River, especially when the weather is hot. There is a pleasant and shady walk up Coal Creek road, just on the edge of the town, and more challenging hikes lead off from trailheads that come down to that road.
Red Stone Campground is worth a visit or three, especially in the late summer and fall seasons.

I thought this campsite was in a great location. We were there in September, so with the trees leaning out, you did hear some of the road, so I would suggest trying to get a site the furthest away from the main road. Regardless, this was a perfect spot to drive to the Crystal Mill hike and see some natural hot springs. This area is absolutely gorgeous.
