What Guests Are Saying
Island Lake Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with clean restrooms and friendly camp hosts who provide excellent service. The campground features spacious and private sites, ideal for fishing and hiking, with stunning lake views. However, access is currently limited due to construction, with a challenging one-lane road that may pose difficulties for larger vehicles.

Great Trout fishing and lots of mosquitoes. I recommend a good Thermacell for your activities. The stars and Milky Way were unbelievable.

Grand Mesa is such a beautiful National Forest, it deserves a better concessionaire to run the campground. I know the Forest Service has to go with a low bid, but when the concessionaire doesn't live up to the terms of the contract, it's time to find someone who will. The concessionaire let the pit toilets fill up and, rather than emptying them, he just closed them. Also, he made no effort to protect visitors from Covid. Why? Because he bought into a conspiracy theory that there is no deadly disease, even though he's had it. So he risks the lives of campers in our National Forests. He also failed to honor the terms of the senior pass which states that pass holders get a 50 percent discount on camping. He gave an arbitrary discount, but not the full 50 percent. What is with this guy? My National Forests deserve better. Much better. On a happy note, the hosts were outstanding and went way above and beyond to make our stay special. Sadly, they won't be back because they can't work for a concessionaire who refuses to meet his responsibilities. The hosts are paying for disinfectants out of their own pockets just to protect campers as much as they can. Come on National Forest Service--Grand Mesa deserves better.

Jay and Connie were excellent hosts. We had a nice time and everything offered was available. The place was clean and quiet with no problems encountered. Getting a little late to go again but it's not the weather's fault. Otherwise, despite no cellular telephone or broadcast TV service the DISHnetwork portable satellite setup and reception was excellent and we were surrounded (not canopied) by beautiful, tall Engelman (I think) spruce trees.

Hosts were great, the water pressure at the filling station was a little slow. Nice lake for recreation. Thanks!
