Rocky Mountain National Park Moraine Park Campground

We had an amazing campsite with a stunning view.

No shades at this site. Someone must've been feeding the ground squirrels because those guys will get up right onto the table and into your food. Watch out.

Very nice (but busy) campground. They do have shower stalls, but you must bring your own water bladder to hang up. Bathrooms were clean.

Easy to navigate and found our site no problem. Shared a driveway and noticed that many other campsites did as well, but our actual site with the table and tent pad had a lot of distance from other sites. Very clean and well-kept. Bear box was spacious.

Beautiful campground! Close to trails and town. Very quiet and peaceful!

RMNP is one of my favorite places on Earth. There is just something amazing about the park that can’t adequately be put into words. A few come to mind though. Majestic, amazing, terrifying (in a good way, Trail Ridge road IFYKYK), humbling (makes you realize how small we are by how big it is). We stayed in the Moraine Park campground and loved it. The other campers are respectful, quiet, and the views are second to none. I’ve been to RMNP 7 times and I always look forward to going back!

The overall campground experience was excellent, but we were totally surprised by Loop B not having restrooms with running water (the tent-only loop also appeared to not have flushing toilets and sinks). I'd reviewed multiple reviews and the campground map, and it was not clear to me that some loops had running water and some loops didn't. Not all restrooms in the campground should be marked the same when they are not the same. We ended up driving to the nearest restroom with sinks every time we needed it. The closest restroom to Loop B was obviously getting a lot of extra use from others in the same situation, so we finally started using one farther into Loop A.

The stalls for showering worked well with our five-gallon bucket and showerhead attachment and pump. The water faucet was a close walk to the showers for hauling water. Lines could get long, so either shower at an off time or expect a wait. Some people were using the dishwashing sink for hair washing to skip the line.

Finally, our site B143 was on a hill, like many sites in the campground. The bear box is close to the parking space, but the fire ring, table, and tent pad are all together at the top of a set of stairs. It was confusing to me to have the food-cooking location so close to the tent pad in a location that needs a bear box, and we had to haul food up and down the stairs anytime we wanted to eat or cook. Pay close attention to site photos if stairs are difficult.

Brought a very well behaved dog, but due to all the rules and restrictions I felt like we were on house arrest at the camp site. This park is way too “Disney-fied” for me. Reservations needed for everything and it was very expensive to see some mountains. There are other parts of Colorado that offer the literal same or better beauty and way fewer people and for FREE. If you like big cities, maybe this park is for you…I prefer the wild more remote nature experience so we will not be coming back. I am more of a BLM and National Forest fan I suppose.

As always, every RMNP person we dealt with was great, both park employees and volunteers. Moraine Park Campground was very nice. The improvements made over the last couple of years really didn't affect us, but it's very nice to see the accessible sites that were added. Thanks to all who helped make it happen.

This is one of the most wonderful places to camp and visit in the world and it gets very busy. The issues we had within the park were a lack of water while camping in "B" loop (parts are on order sir), no showers, unless you brought your own solar shower, a lack of campfires due to the fire danger, and it turns out that Colorado has a monsoon season so expect rain ever day. Maybe a little, maybe a lot.

Estes Park is a tourist trap. Avoid it if you can. Smokin Daves, outside of the park, had some great BBQ AND they allow dogs!!! Just a reminder dogs are NOT allowed on the trails. :(
