About Rocky Mountain National Park Moraine Park Campground

Moraine Park Campground is open for the Winter Season·         Sites are available on a first come, first-served basis.·         Campers can only pay in person.·         Campers can pay using the Recreation.gov Mobile App Scan and Pay feature.·         Sites are available in A-Loop, B-Loop, C-Loop, and E-Loop only.·         All campsites in Loop A 63-137, and Loop D are closed for the winter season.·         To pay, follow instruction on QR code located at the campground entrance kiosk.·         Fill out and hang a campsite marker on the campsite post for proof of payment.Winter Camping Stay Limit: At Rocky, there is a limit of 14-nights per year including summer.Moraine Park Campground is located on the east side of RMNP at an elevation of 8,160 feet above sea level. There are 244 campsites available. To get to Moraine Park Campground, turn down Moraine Park Road for 0.5 miles.  Any sites that are open are listed as "A" for available; this means those campsites are available to be reserved.Any campsite listed as “NR” has Not Yet Released; this means that those campsites are not yet available to be reserved.What Size of RV or Trailer Can Moraine Park Campground Accommodate?Moraine Park Campground can accommodate up to a 40-foot-long RV or a Trailer and Tow Vehicle. The combined length cannot exceed 40-feet. Before making a reservation, check the details for each campsite to see which sites can accommodate larger vehicles. Many campsites are designed for tents or vans only.Are There Electric Hookups Available?Yes. 49 campsites have electric hookups that can support 20, 30 or 50 amps. Most campsites in Moraine Park Campground are standard non-electric sites. Before making your reservation, check each individual campsite for details.Is a Timed Entry Reservation Included with my Camping Reservation?Yes. A "Timed Entry+ Bear Lake Road" Reservation is included with your overnight camping reservation. Your campground reservation will serve as your vehicle timed entry reservation. Campers can enter RMNP via the Grand Lake, Beaver Meadows or Fall River Entrances beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation.Remember to print and bring a copy of your campground reservation with you and keep this in your vehicle. You will be asked to show your campground reservation confirmation at the park's entrance station upon arrival. If you exit the park, be prepared to show your confirmation every time you return.  When Can I Check into My Campsite?Check In begins at 1 p.m. for all campsites in Rocky Mountain National Park. What Time is Check Out?All campers must check out of their campsites by 12 p.m. (noon). How Many Nights Can I Stay at Moraine Park Campground?In Rocky Mountain National Park, there is a 7-night limit for all campgrounds during the summer season. This means that campers can stay a total of 7 nights inside the park. This limit includes overnight stays at all campgrounds. For instance, a camper could spend 7 nights at Moraine Park Campground, or they could stay 3 nights at Glacier Basin Campground and 4 at Timber Creek Campground.Do Your Part to Help New Plants Grow - Stay Off of Hydroseeded AreasMoraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.

Clean campground, pretty quiet, Sites not on top of each other. Bathrooms seemed a little lean for campground size and no showers- but other wise terrific. Woke up day two surrounded by mule deer!

We had a wonderful time at Moraine campground. There were so many great sites but I really feel we got the best one (for tent camping) with site A038. It was super private from other sites, had it's own parking area, and yet was still very convenient to the restrooms. The campground was really quiet, had lots of nice tree coverage, and we saw wildlife there every day. We also attended a nice ranger talk at the amphitheater one night, which was right next door to our site. After driving through the two other main campgrounds at the park (Glacier Basin and Timber creek), we were very glad we decided to stay at Moraine. The bathrooms could have used a bit more cleaning but I would assume that is due to all of the recent budget and staffing cuts. Even so, they were always well stocked and they had a convenient potable water pump and dish sink. There are no showers here but there are very roomy shower booths for self-provided solar shower bags, which we used a couple of times, and they worked out great. The other nice benefit to this campground is it's close distance to the Moraine Discovery Center and Bear lake access. We spoke with a super helpful ranger at the Discovery Center who gave us great tips for where to see wildlife. Every visit to Sheep Lakes provided us with either a moose or sheep sighting and we saw lots of Pika looking over the edge at Rock Cut.

We stayed at Moraine campground. Most of the sites are shaded and have privacy. We had large bucks walk through our campsite on numerous days. The restrooms were clean and well-lit. I used a solar shower for the first time. It was a better experience than I had anticipated. We used the campground shuttle on multiple days. (the C loop location) Although it took longer to get somewhere, parking is limited for such a large number of people. The shuttle drivers were all friendly. It was more relaxing than trying to navigate parking. The hikes are all great. Many signs direct you where to go. My family loved the hike to Sky Pond. It is beautiful there.

Our first camping adventure in RMNP! What an abundance of incredible natural beauty! Super friendly and helpful rangers and plenty of fellow happy campers. I do have two recommendations for improvement:
1. The addition of shower facilities would greatly enhance the camping experience.
2. Please add an express lane for those returning to the Park. As already registered campers, it was very inconvenient waiting in the long line at the park entrance behind those visitors just checking in.

The area and scenery were of course beautiful. The campsites however are small and difficult to back into even with a short 20-footer like ours. And no showers. We stunk pretty good by the time we left.

Nice site, but not a level driveway. Higher in the back. Could have been graded leveler. Surprising considering all the other improvements to the campground.

  • Camping space is extremely limited. Ensure your camping unit or equipment will fit in your chosen site. Other options may not be available. 
  • Vehicle Length - Vehicles larger than 40-feet are not permitted in Moraine Park Campground.Trailer length is the total maximum vehicle length allowable.(Trailer Length = Trailer + Hitch + Vehicle)Maximum Vehicle + Trailer Length = Vehicle + Trailer + Hitch = 40 ft at Moraine Park Campground.
  • Campers will be able to enter the park beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation, which is also the check-in time for all RMNP campgrounds.
  • Entrance Fee. A park entrance fee is required to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, or show your annual or lifetime park pass. You may pay the entrance fee upon arrival.Pass Discounts on Camping. If you use a Senior or Access Pass for a camping fee discount while booking a reservation, you must present the pass and photo ID upon check-in.
  • Site Limits. Each site is limited to eight (8) persons and one camping unit (i.e., a tent, RV, or trailer/tow vehicle) plus one additional tent per site.  All tents shall be located on the tent pad. All additional camp structures must be self standing without impacts to vegetation or trees.  There is at least one parking space per site. Some sites may accommodate more than one vehicle. A vehicle is defined as one car/truck, one trailer, one RV, or one towed unit.  Each vehicle must be parked on the gravel or paved parking pad causing no resource degradation or encroachment onto the main road.  Extra vehicles must park in overflow areas.Maximum length of stay. The maximum length of stay during peak season is 7 nights. Please check the rules and regulations before making your reservation.
  • Firewood. Firewood is available for purchase at Moraine Park Campground, and all other campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park.Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails and follow local guidelines for firewood. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water. Dispose of unwanted bait, worms, fish parts, or other organisms into the trash and not into the environment.   • Stay Out of Hydroseeded Areas!Moraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.
  • Prohibited Wheeled Devices. The use of skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and other similar devices is prohibited.
  • Be Bear Aware when camping. Store all food and scented (soaps/lotions/toothpaste/lip balm – anything with a scent) items inside Food Storage Boxes provided at each campsite. RMNP has a zero tolerance policy for food storage violations. Do your part to help protect wildlife.
