About North Fruita Desert Campground

The North Fruita Desert campground is a mountain biker’s paradise with campsites situated at the heart of the famous "18 Road" trail system and within easy reach of the world-renowned Kokopelli Trail system. Come to the North Fruita Desert for an active outing of riding and relaxing with family and friends. Ride to the trails in just a few minutes from any of the campsites.   The trail system and associated camping amenities provide great opportunities to experience the diverse desert terrain along the base of the Book Cliffs. Food, lodging and other amenities are available nearby in the City of Fruita.  Your camping fees pay not only for campground maintenance and improvements, but also for trail construction and maintenance on the 18 Road trail system.

Outhouse/Pit toilet was clean and stocked with TP. Sign marking camp spots was easily visible and camping spaces plenty. Booking online easy.
My only suggestion is for an RECREATION.gov APP have a better directions to locations and be able to use a GPS map to see ALL the available camping areas

My campsite #11’s fire pit was still smoldering w/ a large log present! Campsite #5 was left activity smoking after Aspen couple left morning if 20(?). Very irresponsible and campers should be fined!

I made a reservation for the night before a race that started at 7am, I arrived at 8pm to find my campsite being used. The person had a fire going, tent up, hammock, food, alcohol on the table, looked like he's been enjoying his evening. I told him I had reserved the spot and he said he didn't know he needed a reservation. Nor did he make any indication he was going to move. I was tired, didn't want to get into an argument and was just going to sleep in my vehicle anyway so I found an unreserved spot and slept there. The reservation requirement is new and there is no campground host so I was just screwed out of my fees. BLM needs to make sure there are bigger signs indicating the new reservation requirement.

We always enjoy heading to the North Fruita Dessert for a weekend of Mountain biking. During the busy seasons they now have a reservation system that we weren’t expecting. We were able to find sites and reserve them, however, our friends who had a van had folks constantly trying to take their reserved site because there was nowhere that showed the campsite was taken.

The North Fruita campground area was really pleasant, nice fire ring and nice Pinion/Juniper trees surrounding the sites. We were only able to say one night but I would highly recommend the North/upper campground sites for anyone wanting to camp or mountain bike here. The 18 mile trail system was right nearby so you can ride from camp.

General

Campsites are limited to 10 people and two vehicles
Group sites are limited to 20 people and four vehicles
Vehicles must be parked in designated areas, parking off road is not allowed. The Event area in the Lower Campground may be used for overflow parking. 
Stays are limited to 14 days
No firewood gathering is allowed
No water or electricity is available, there are eight pit toilets within the campground
All trash, including dog waste, must be packed out 
Quiet hours are from 10pm to 6am. Please respect other campers 
Reservations are required for all camping within the campground
Changes may be made to your reservation until 24 hours before the reserved date. A full refund, minus the $8 reservation fee, will be given if canceled 48 hours before the first reserved date. Please note, you cannot change your check-in date. If you would like to change your check-in date, you will need to cancel your entire reservation and rebook.

No refunds are given due to weather
