Lovely campground well located at the more rural, quiet entrance to the park. Perfect position to wake up and drive trail ridge road. Potable water.

Everything was great. Campground was clean and well organized.
The ODD thing was that all the sites had RESERVED tags on them, the entrance said 'CAMPGROUNDS FULL' and the website said the same . . . yet at least a third of the campsites were never used. This represents an unfortunate under use of resources.
But again, my experience was great !

It was frustrating to see how many spots were reserved but empty (no shows). We had such a difficult time finding an open spot to camp and it seems unfair so many can reserve and not show. Maybe you could implement a penalty for no showing by a certain time?

The bathrooms were very clean, as was the campsite. The rangers were friendly and helpful. A great hike is the Green Mountain/Onahu Creek loop. You get a first hand look at the burn scar and the regrowth of the landscape. We heard the elk bugling and saw a bull moose and his two ladies. Fun!

The only problem I have is with reservations. It seems such a waste that so many campsites are empty at all the campgrounds we visit and yet they are all booked. The problem that I see is that people reserve more nights than they are going to use "just in case. Is it not possible to have a system where if the campsite is not occupied by a certain time ...... say 4pm that it is released on a first come basis. If you have a campsite reserved and are going to be late you would need to have a phone # to call to advise that you will be late. I appreciate that if the site is paid for it should be available for you, but I see so many unused campsites in highly desirable National Parks going empty.
There has to be a better way.
We used to go to Capital Reef a lot when they had first come first served but now it is by reservation only and we can never get in. We had great problems trying to make reservations at Acadia NP and were unable to stay in the park. We did vist the park and we did drive through the campgrounds a witnessed many empty campsites. Same at Yosemite. There we were able to get campsites but had to move three times in a week even making the reservations months in advance.
