Horseshoe Campground

Our designated site had the bathroom and 3 dumpsters right next to it. You could smell the garbage. Luckily we were able to move to another site that was open due to a cancellation.
Do not ignore the bug warnings in these reviews. The mesquitos were really really bad. Tons of them. Even with strong bug spray, we were surrounded by them accept at night. They wouldn't land, but just hovered around you about an inch away. Very unpleasant. Host said it's pretty much like that in the entire valley "this time of year". Their source is a very pool of standing water in the camp ground, tucked away where you can't really see it.

Great location. Great upkeep. Great nearby trails. Not great bug situation. I read prior reviews about the mosquitos before our trip, but didn't realize the extent of it. Bring a strong anti-mosquito game with you if you don't want to be inside of your tent/camper at the campsite.

Bring your bug spray. Nice campground. Clean. Great for tents and vans, not so much for larger trailers or big RVs. Far enough away that you can’t hear hwy 285. I was in site 3, next to the cg host, and his music was a little loud. But I still enjoyed my one night stay.

Beautiful campground. Fantastic location - central to the state of CO, and far enough from civilization that you can't hear any traffic at all and have little light pollution (light domes) but close enough that you can be in Fairplay in 15 minutes and still have some cell reception (at least w/ Verizon). Proximity to some bristlecone pines and Mt Sherman is also great. My favorite thing about this campground became the meadow on its east side filled with late summer wildflowers. Very peaceful.

Might be good for you to know the mosquitoes summer of 2021 were relentless! I was told it was because this was a particularly wet spring/summer but, yes, be prepared! Also, the well has water safe for consumption though it is not clearly labeled "potable". I called the number to confirm that.

Beautiful campground! Quiet and secluded with lush greenery and wildflowers everywhere! Worth the bumpy drive in! Bring mosquito spray, you will need it!

rough road to pull a trailer on, lots of mosquitoes, but the campground is near a creek hiking trails and great scenery. The wild flowers were amazing. Lot of shade.

Everything about being at Horseshoe campground was great! The ONLY problem was the horrible CR18 that you had to drive on to get to the campground.

Nice campground in terms of sites. Disgusting bathrooms. Has water, but unchlorinated.

Beautiful spot with some easily accessible hiking. Mt. Sherman seems to be close. Just outside of Fairplay. Not very crowded, but spots 9-11 (I think) are very close. Last 6 mi are on bumpy dirt road. A little buggy due to all the recent rain.

Road is rough getting to campground. Camp and the sites are great backing to wide open space. Bathrooms were clean and very nice Host. Close to Mt Sherman.
