About Baby Doe

Baby Doe Campground is situated on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in the shade of a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest. This family-friendly campground is a popular summer destination for boating, hiking and fishing. The campground was named for Elizabeth McCourt, whose nickname was Baby Doe. She made a name for herself in the Colorado mining community in the 19th century when she took on the rugged work of a miner.

we've been there many years; this year the only negative was the camp hosts. Very unprofessional. And after our first day there, they changed our date marker to 'available tonight only' even though we had more nights there. When I spoke with them they acted like it's not a big deal, saying 'whatever' a couple times. The women's bathroom next to our site was also without toilet paper for a whole day--always had to take our own. Upon telling our son that his vehicle needed to be further off the road, he moved it in as far as he could get it, off the road as much or more than several of the other sites--yet they continued to make it an issue even though between the tree limbs and his 30' camper, he had absolutely no more inches to budge. Usually the hosts are pleasant and helpful and keep the bathrooms clean and supplied. Not so this time.

This is such a beautiful camp ground and the water is breath taking! I loved our stay at baby doe since we were by the “beach” area and it was actually sandy and we loved that! Crystal clear water too!
