About Father Dyer

Father Dyer Campground is situated on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in the shade of a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest. The family-friendly campground is a popular summer destination for boating, hiking and fishing. The campground is named after Father John Lewis Dyer, one of the first Methodist ministers to tour Colorado's high country mining camps. For 20 years, beginning in 1862, he travelled the circuit encompassing Alma, Fairplay and Leadville, regularly skiing over the 13,186-foot Mosquito Pass on long, wooden skis.

Everything was as expected. The site was clean and ready, and the toilets were the cleanest park restrooms I have ever seen. We had an excellent time and experience.

Stayed two nites Aug 16, 17, 2022 in site 10. Shaded, private picnic table & fire ring way back off the road. Easy back-in for our 30 ft travel trl. Not much traffic in this small CG, and sites are well spaced, good road. There were 2 bars of cell service! Didn't try a satellite TV, but may be tricky in the trees. This loop has a trail going down to Turquoise Lake. This CG has easy access to many Ldvl area trails - get a map! Did not interact with the Host, but they keep a very clean CG; bear-proof dumpsters. Interesting, this is the first CG we have seen that had gallon jugs of "fire water" at a couple spigots, to put out your campfire. This needs to be a Nat'l Forest CG "thing"! RRak

Beautiful campground within a short walk of Turquoise Lake. We stayed in site 23 with two tents and it was both private and spacious. As others have noted, this campground does indeed have the cleanest vault toilets/bathrooms I've ever experienced! We stayed Sunday - Wednesday right before Labor Day weekend and the campground was pretty quiet. We did not have any issues with generator noise or noise from other campers. I loved that we were able to take a quick walk to the lake to look at the stars or watch the sunset. Gorgeous place, with lots of great hikes in the area, and Leadville is just ten minutes away if you want to explore a cool historic town.

The camp host, Marsha, was superb! She was so nice, kept the outhouses immaculate, helped recharge a battery, just a wonderful lady.

The campground was so clean, quiet, our campsites had good tent areas. Our group loves Father Dyer.

Quiet campground with clean restrooms. With numerous other campgrounds in the area signage was good but roads from Leadville were a bit confusing. We discovered several ways to get over to our site. The campground is not on the lake but it’s a short walk. Excellent camp host.
