About Father Dyer

Father Dyer Campground is situated on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in the shade of a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest. The family-friendly campground is a popular summer destination for boating, hiking and fishing. The campground is named after Father John Lewis Dyer, one of the first Methodist ministers to tour Colorado's high country mining camps. For 20 years, beginning in 1862, he travelled the circuit encompassing Alma, Fairplay and Leadville, regularly skiing over the 13,186-foot Mosquito Pass on long, wooden skis.

Loved the area. The only issue we had was the fact that the campground host made our second vehicle pay $8/day for our trip. We listed 2 vehicles on our reservation and camp 3 or 4 times a year and have never had this charge before. I also could not find anything on Recreation.gov stating that there was a new fee for extra vehicles.

This is a beautiful campground, with the cleanest pit toilets ever. The camp host was great! It is not on the water of Turquoise Lake, but not far.

The camp host was super nice. Most of our neighbors at the camp site were nice too! The facility was well managed and clean. Location was great, and the trees provided great shade throughout the day. I am super pleased with the campground itself, and the camp staff.

My only complaint is that there was a larger group that could be heard throughout the entire campground cursing and screaming profanity incessantly. I know you don't have much control over that, but there were a lot of children, including my own, that didn't need to be around that. not a deal breaker, but totally inappropriate.

Camp hosts were top-notch. Pit toilets were very clean. Nice wooded, spaced-out camp sites. Looking forward to coming again!

Love walking down to the lake from the campground. The camp host Martha was very nice. The pit toilets were clean and well stocked with TP. It is a quiet campground with well separated sites. Loads of mature trees within the campground and down around the lake.
