What Guests Are Saying

White Star Campground is highly praised for its cleanliness, friendly camp hosts, and beautiful, well-maintained sites. Visitors enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, proximity to hiking trails, and stunning views, with many expressing a desire to return. While some noted noise from nearby roads and an increase in dog presence, these were minor concerns compared to the overall positive experience.

Stayed in site 65. Much closer to the road than anticipated and could clearly hear cars and bikes on the road while in tents. Otherwise a nice secluded site. The walk in/out situation wasn’t bad since we were prepared for it. Overall a great trip

The campground was clean & nice, and fairly quiet. The camp hosts were friendly, too.
There are lots of neat points of interest to check out, within a reasonable distance of the campground. I particularly enjoyed seeing the abandoned towns of Vicksburg & Winfield (although the road was a bit rough, lol!) I also really liked driving through the old rock railroad tunnels & seeing “Elephant Rock” near Buena Vista. Next time we plan to check out the town of Twin Lakes a little closer and possibly tour the mine at Leadville.

Great spot close right beside the Twin Lakes. Easy access to Leadville with short drive. Clean and quiet, vault toilets. Felt very out in nature. Well maintained and would return - thanks!

Nice camp in the Valley loop. A little rustic, which is how we like it. The new improved ridge loop looks fun, too bad it is FF only. Prefer to have a reservation.

We stayed in site 66. This is a lovely campground that is very well maintained. Our site on our loop was right next to the drinking water, garbage, and toilets. It also was farther away from the rest of the campsites. It was very relaxing and beautiful. My only feedback is our site was so rocky it made it hard to stake our stuff in. Even though there was a spacious tent pad we bent tent 2 stakes on huge rocks buried in the ground we couldn’t see. We also couldn’t stake the final leg of our cover/awning over the picnic table cause the area was really rocky. Not much one can do but something to be wary of. We also took the Interlaken boat tour and that was such a fun experience. We definitely plan to come back to this campsite for future trips.

Bathroom/campsite was clean. No open fires due to fire restrictions. This is our 7th year in a row staying at this campground and overall it has been a very good. Our primary activity is fishing which has been very good in the area lakes. This campground is short on shade so definitely bring a canopy.
Probably the biggest negative is the increase in the amount of dogs. It is starting to feel more like a dog park then a campground in a National Forrest. Some dogs are well behaved and others not so much (bark at everything and anyone). Some dogs are not on leashes and wonder into other campsites. We have also noticed the decrease in wildlife as the number of dogs increase. We have also noticed an increase in the number of campers who have no respect for other campers in campground.
