Campsite itself was great with nicely spaced-out sites and good tent pads. Some of the sites (not all) have incredible views of the lake and mountains, others have a view entirely obscured by the hill that the good-view campsites sit on. 12 would have been fantastic, 13 (mine) had no view.
Downside is that fellow campers were clearly inexperienced with some of the basics of primitive-ish campgrounds. I wish these campgrounds had showers and flush toilets because other campers just couldn't figure out how to keep the pit toilet clean and odor/fly free (well... as low odor/fly as you ever get with them). The weekend crowd also didn't seem to be particularly bear aware and were dumping food waste near my campsite (at least it wasn't on theirs?!?). Monday to Wednesday were pretty nice, mostly RVing families with kids. Thursday to Sunday were chaos with a lot of clueless campers who were loud, in really big groups, totally clueless about bear/pit toilets, and just generally disruptive.

I've camped at White Star for at least 25+ years. The campground has always been super clean. We arrived Monday and Left Friday. This time the bathrooms weren't cleaned from Tuesday thru Thursday Morning. The toilet paper ran out. Someone had diarrhea in the bathroom on Tuesday. Making the experience very unpleasant. Maybe it's the cutbacks?

We stayed two nights. The first day a family played loud music and had barking dogs that made the setting very uncomfortable. Second night, different family with children who screamed in agony all night. At 3am, I abandoned my tent and drove to another site and tried unsuccessfully to sleep in my car until sunrise. Awful experience. I feel sorry for the other family, but I felt like a refugee fleeing a war zone. No peace, no quiet.

Somewhere when registering, there should be a place for me to enter my America the Beautiful pass in order to receive the Senior discounted rate. It did not show up and so I paid the given ( (full) price. My friends were able to pay half what I did and Iām older than either of them. I requested a refund or credit towards next summer trip, but it was denied.
Plus, it rained all week so we left a day early! š

Sites are crammed. Hot basin with no views or water access.take is polluted with mine tailing and there is no real shore access. Totally packed. 14 young people sitting around using drugs and being load in a standard site. Left after not being able to resolve group size disturbances with the host due to not being able to find/ communicate concerns with them.
